After going over to rover then vauxhall im back with ford!!!

Ive bought myself a good condition V reg 1999 1.8D 55 Escort Van.
Its white and is completely standard.

Im looking to mod it but not sure where to start.

Now, doing a bit of reserach i think i found out that the van is a mark 6? Is this correct?

Bit more research indicates that the mk5 bumpers wont fit - is this correct?

Im hoping to mod it and make it look respectable but as cheaply as possible. The van is running with tax and mot. Im going to sort the small rust coming through here and there.

Id like to upgrade the seats, whats best and easy to get?

Id like to update the exterior so im looking at some alloys and maybe lowering it - how do i go about doing this?

Id like to fit side skirts, and maybe rs2000 style bumpers (colour coded) - im having trouble finding these so maybe go gti. Will the mk6 fit straight on (skirts and bumpers) or can i get away with mk5 kit (like xr3i,rs2000 etc).

Then i will be looking at doing the engine which is only on 70k at the mo and runs well but is dog slow. What is the easiest upgrade? Mondeo TD? Zetec 1.8 - 2.0? CVH? Whats the easiest to transfer and get hold of and what will i need.

I know its alot of questions but i need alot of answers!!!

engine wise depends what you want mate, the later intercooled TD mk6 Escorts go pretty well, so could fire one of them in, or could zetec or RS2000 it - again both were found in mk6 escorts so a fairly easy conversion - just buy a donor car.

I think personally i'd be buying a scrap 5dr Escort GTi cos you'd get the engine and box plus all ancillaries, the half leather interior (you need 4dr doorcards on a van), front fogged bumper, sideskirts, 15" wheels etc etc

 

ps the RS2k bumper and GTi bumper is the same

there is a lad on here who converted a mk6 van to mk5 front end, its white with tiger stripes - looks wicked but think there is a bit of work to do at front end.
