Default Inter cooler filling with oil on my RS turbo???

Please help... recently purchased a 1989 Escort RS Turbo, (G33 HWR) First thing i noticed after buying the car once you go over 4000 - 5000 rpm started bellowing blue smoke out the back. It was also filling the hoses off the turbo with oil as well as the inter cooler and metering unit. Plus squirting oil out of the bleed valve!!

I changed the turbo the week end and took the bleed valve off. I also checked all the breather pipes for blockages... nothing.

Just changed all the boost pipes tonight for samco hoses and the one from turbo to inter cooler full again with oil. Starting to smoke when you start the car now as well.

Not having a good experience.... can you please advise me on what i have to do?

sounds serious to me, your prob gonna need a full rebuild on that one.
probably the ring lands have broke away on the piston. causing oil to go every were on boost because youll be presurising the block.
id get it checked, sorry for the bad news

Word of mouth is best, just ask around local garages etc for people to do recon work.
Roughly looking at £100 for rebore, + new pistons, crank could be worn, on mains/big ends, won't know what else needs doing till apart, head will no doubt need somework also.

I changed the oil about 4 weeks ago.... I used valvoline 5w 30. Is this too thin? Could this be the reason why its blowing through turbo and filling the inter cool?

I'm having the engine pressure checked Saturday morning. P J Motorsport in Wolverhampton are doing the work. Will know the fate of my turbo after!

Yes, 5/30 is too thin for an escort turbo, not too sure what it should be though?

5 30 oil is spot on for the rs fiesta and escorts.. Belive buttons even say 15 50 is better again.. Sounds like the ring gone on it.. If your rebuilding the engine I'd upgrade a few bits.. Pistons gaskets etc etc..

I purchased a ERST 3 months ago with a view to restoring her back to her original standard condition over time. I noticed at high revs 4500 - 5000 my inter cooler was filling with oil. I had it compression tested today by PJ Motorsport in Wolverhampton, they concluded that piston 1 to 3 were fine but piston number 4 wasn't!

They said that I will have to have the bottom end bored out and bigger pistons fitted. This would correct things. However, while the engine is stripped I should replace the oil pump, water pump, bearings, gaskets and cam belt.

Can anyone advise/recommend somebody to do the work? How much are we talking to do the work? PM me or contact me on 07796 008817.

i personally would go see martin hadland .. if was in that area ... just my choice as i know his level of work is very high and attention to detail too .. not trying to say pj arn't just my personal opinion .. and yes what they have said is worth doing ...
.5 overbore, pistons, oil pump, water pump, bearings, gaskets and cam belt ... but get the rods shot peened and the botom end balanced from clutch to flywheel, cost a bit more but worth it in the long run 'IF' you want to go for some more power .. also worth using arp big end bolts .... as when you up the power the standrad ones are not that happy ....

Just done this myself

ARP studs £30 off ebay
Head cleaned and skimmed £100
