avid-fan - I think it's less than £10k, but I could be wrong. Consult with Google.

it's either £6k or £7k in cash, regardless of the demonination of coins/notes (but oyu'd need to be superman to get £7k worth of shrapnel to the bank
)
the do sometimes tell the feds that yuo've made a large deposit so they cna ask you where it came from so if you get a knock on the door you've got to explain where it's come from

then he needs to "launder" it and spread it across many different accounts and in small quantities like a few k each, and you can't even put them in your own name
alternativly you can say you won it playing poker with your mates, like wot them tits did in lock stock and pray for the best

you've got no worries as it's only £9k, but billy's mate is a bit stuffed as he's got 3 times that to squander
don't worry about rushing though, the banks will still take the money as will most shops, they just won't put them back into circulation according to the signs that have been put up in the post office etc
just don't stick in 39k today and then another £9k tomorrow

The Bank of England will change them and dont have a cut off, send all at once or dribs and drabs, or go to post offices

just go into town, spread across the different banks, and the bank will just swap the old £20's for new ones! no need to pay it in

but that's only if he's stuffed them under the mattress beuse he was saving up to build an extension or buying a car or soemthing
if he wants to "legitimise" the money it's going to have to be turned from paper to digits on his bank account

You'd need to find someone who was selling a car who was also thick enough to take a sackful of old £20 notes on deadline day.....

I think you'll find that even though they are being taken out of circulation, banks and post offices will continue to take them for the next few months at least.

If you want to keep it in cash without anyone knowing, could you not just exchange it into another currency and then back? I've not even heard about this. Lol, is it an English thing only?

Just Googled and noticed they've put Adam Smith on the new notes. Bit of a cheek considering his way of thinking has been pretty much ignored.
