Default £352! Freeview Aerial Installation?

FUCK A DUCK!!

I swear to god I mishead but after ringing back the Aerial guy confirmed yes it was indeed £352 to install a fucking FREEVIEW aerial without box on the roof of my mums house.

Is this a case of southern tax or what? Up north I could get that sorted for less than half that!!

A high gain loft aerial would be sufficient and they are less than £20, that is unless she lives in a weird place that suffers with poor reception?

up north you could buy a new house with the ariel already fitted for that.
i just fitted an ariel last week inside my attic. cost me fuck all as it was an old one i salvaged from a school we were refurbing. my freeview works perfectly with it.
ask him for a detailed breakdown of why it costs so much then tell him to go get fucked.

We are in the forest of dean... shitty sky signal so allegedly freeview will be better.

Sky is OK in winter as there are not any leaves on the trees.

Has someone been out and done a signal survey then, used a temporary aerial and made sure she will get a decent freeview reception?

He came out this morning to fix the sky, advised the Zone2 dish we have can't pick it's way through the trees. Option is to cut down the trees, unfortunately the forestry commission don't agree being able to recieve a stable signal is a big priority

He did do a test and he did say freeview would be the solution.

I'd expect a gaurantee that the work being undertaken would offer a solution to our problems and payment would depend on that.

I am just flabbergasted why it costs £352!!

also could try to move he sky dish further out or up, a region 2 dish wont help much if at all

a generalisation would be:
look at your neighbours aerials to see what you need, if they have boxes on the poles then its amps and you are in a shit/okish area

With all due respect mate, I do know that.

The house is down the side of a bank of trees. The trees have recently grown big juicy leaves thus causing a problem.

shit price imo

I live out in the sticks and when I moved in, I couldnt even pick up std channels.

Had a few shit quotes, ended up getting a guy in to put up a super duper aerial with an AMP. Right on top of the roof / chimney (with no safety gear!)

The sky guy turned up at the same time to fit HD and I needed the sky cables over the roof also (sky too safety concious to do this!) and he did that for me

£200 all in I think

98 freeview channels picked up.. NOT that I ever use freeview as I have sky HD! waste of money probably but I wanted the house to have a decent aerial!

Good man, thankyou, that is exactly what I wanted to hear. I just wanted someone else to call bullshit on him.

Cheers

Just do the maths mate.

He needs to have spent a bit of time coming out to quote, and buying parts.

Then a couple of hours tops to actually install.

Joe Bloggs can go and buy a decent aerial for 30 quid, then a few quid for cable etc.

£352?

No.

He's just trying it on as he's probably busy as fuck still since the switch-over.

I bought a little signal finding box from screwfix for £15 or so and it helped me right out with the boys room, handy as fuck for fault finding too, found a break between aerial and booster box, might be worth a go?
