If I had a choice even though I'm on single/twin belt I'd go for multi ribbed everytime.

Poly V (multi V) belt is better all day long.

Better grip and longer life.

i thought the reason for the twin belt setup meant that it couldnt slip? as both would have to slip at the same time
no idea which is better tho

i think i remember rod mentioning that the twin belt set up is no good at high rpm & he is running the multi groove belt system

there is a reason why cars dont generally have crappy toothed belts on em anymore...... your telling me you dont miss the "SQUEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKKK" in the rain pulling out of corners that used to happen,,,,,, then SNAP

poly V is def the best option, more grip and longer life too

Yes thats correct at sustained rpm ( 8k+) the Power Steering belt would turn over & hit the cooling belt, we ran without the outer belt on Topspeed runs.

What do you have to change to go to the multi groove setup?

Need to change the pulleys, ie crank, alt, water pump, ps pump.
I can't change as my trigger wheel is locked/welded to my crank pulley.
Saying that I've never had any slippage in the wet, but do have to hunt a bit for two belts when replacing them that are the same width, even ones of the same make can vary in width, as most makers actually just buy them in and box them, plus multi seem to last forever as well.

Tabs, I assume all the pulleys are just a simple swap over, no different bolt hole alignments or anything silly like that?

Or you could get all new anodised pulleys for the 4x4 and put them in a 2wd?

The big pulley on the bottom left is the power steering pump. The spare set of grooves on the front of the crank pulley is for an air con pump which i don't run

To change over to the later ribbed type belt, you will need the main bracket that goes on the offside side of the block, tensioner, all the ribbed belt pulleys, and power steering pump pipe (the power steering pumps are on opposite sides). I'm pretty sure the pumps are the same.

i dont know if anyones done it but thats how i was going to go on my escos

as far as i know you need a ribbed belt pulley for crank, water pump and alternator, you will also use a 2wd alt bracket and tension it like you would ona twin belt system

the p/s pump would be v belt and need to be spaced out to keep it inline with the front of the crank pulley as this would use the v groove on the crank usually for aircon

make up the multirib but without that fooking massively heavy bracket - you can still have a manual adjuster on poly v setup.

its what i saidm you will use a 2wd alt bracket and tensior bracket, so its a multi ribbed belt but you adjust as if it was a twin belt set up

i reckon you could use one of marks Alloy units as per the 2wd, fit all the std poly v pulleys - you dont have to have auto adjusters - not like your trying to do 2-,40k miles on it without maintenance.

do you need more than 90amps to run your car? thats a lot of current pal. dont go over spec for no reason.

if you work out you need it then by all means by a smaller version with the same output

Can you get a multi ribbed belt as shown above but one that only goes from crank to water pump to alternator? i will either run the power steering on the other side with a single v belt or i will be running electric power steering so will have no power steering pump or belt

thanks

I looked into it Markk and no i do not need that much ampage so i will be running a 2wd alternator/bracket/tensioner set up

Plus the cost of a grp a alternator bracket is ridiculous!

what i want is a crank pulley with multi rib on the inside and v belt on the outer side,

Im gonna be getting a billet pully from mk motorsport so im sure he could do this for me with a 36-1 trigger ring on the back.

Just need to know if i can get a multi ribbed belt that just does crank/alt/water pump

all the bling cost lots of money pal ! whether you need it or not is what you need to decide, looking good does not always mean going fast !

as for the belt setup, yes you can get a belt and a pulley, the std 4x4 has both iirc. (just not the 36-1/2)
