Default ***FIXED*** Really need some help with the rear suspension, pics too

Hi all,

My computer had a terminal fuck up when i took the rear suspension apart so i lost all my photos, it was also quite a while ago. Any how just putting it back together now, with some new flow flex bushes, the tie bar bush seems far too loose to me? and also the swing to hub bushes.... should there be a washer on the inside too? pics will probably explain it better than me,

Bit embarrassing but its the first escort i've actually put back together lol.

Cheers

Rob,

just been through my rebuild pics, n it is kind of hard to see exactly what iv done, but...

im fairly sure on the outer side of all the bushes mentioned, iv used the standard issue ford curved washers

then on the hub to trailing arm bush, iv used that thick washer u have on the outside, on the inside between the hub n the bush, if that makes sense? kind of takes up that space u have, then the curved washer on the outside compresses it all together

i have the same bush kit, admittedly my tie bar to hub bushes look tighter, altho they do take a hell of a tightening up, even with the curved ford washers, i had to run them up with the impact gun, then the rest of the way with a big old torque wrench

will try and dig out the best pics iv got and psot em up, see if that helps

actually, hang on, that bush in the hub to tie bar hole, is that the correct 1?

looks like 1 that shud maybe got trailing arm to body maybe? the 1s used there are virtually identical to the 1s used on the front for the ARB to hub

No mate its definately far too loose, when I did my resto underneath I done mine up much tighter the pics are under my resto. I also used the original ford washer on the side closest to the tie arm.

the ones in the second pic look wrong. it looks like there should be a sleeve inbetween the bush and the wishbone (or whatever you call it). same problem for me aswell as i had it pressed out before i shotblasted them..it will eventually wear away at the bush and fook it..also the bush you have wont fit with the sleeve fitted..i phoned the bush place up and they sent me different bushes (they said they did 2 sizes), after i got a new set of wishbones with sleeve still in..hope that helps

I had a lot of trouble getting flo-flex/deflex whatever they are called to fit mine. I had the exact same problem with the wishbone-hub bush like you. Thing is I hadnt extracted all of the old bush so the sleave was still there. I had to use washers though to make the distance up. Really wasnt happy with the feel of them, especially where the rear wishbone joins to the body (the big bush), didnt move nice when you moved the arm. Id actually been sold floflex in powerflex boxes so got a refund and fitted the real deal. Not just saying this but the difference was night and day.

I've never liked Dflex bushes. The ease of fitment is, as has been said, night and day.

Cheers all, they are alright for the minute (car doesn't move lol), when its on the road i will see about swapping bushes if they don't feel nice.... Although deformed they are doing their job okay at the moment with no movement etc.

Thanks for the pics and advice

Ive never liked the hub assembly / wishbone ones that dont have an outer sleeve- i had this trouble when i polybushed my first one.
Supaflex ones have an outer stainless sleeve that pushes into the wishbone to give much more support- just like the standard bushes. Not cheap though!
Nice looking resto btw!

I got my last set from the Supaflex rep at Ford Fair IIRC, must be 3 or 4 years ago...
Got the wishbone inners(2) and outers(4), all with an inner and outer stainless sleeve each.

If you knocked out your old bushes and a steel sleeve was still left in the wishbone then you haven't finished knocking out the old bush! The steel sleeve should have been attached to the rest of the bush.
