Default sierra cosworth - problem with car ???

i jet washed my engine to find my oil leak, once i started the car to take it for a run to see where oil was coming from it is now idling at 4000 revs and stopping at 4000 revs.
When i take the wire of the idle valve the car runs at 1000 revs but doesn't seem to run properly, seems as if its going to stall or cut out.
I've changed idle valve and it still has the same problem.
Can anyone help me with this?

Check your loom plugs & all other connectors especially crank and phase sensors, give them a good blow out with an airline and then wd40 them.

As said never jetwash an engine.

i did the same trying to find an oil leak and turned out i had water in the plug for the crank sensor, also removed and cleaned dizzy cap as it can condonsate if the engine was warm.

^^ what he said, the first thing I'd do is dry out the dizzy, as it had hot air inside it and got blasted with water the air codenses and forms water droplets on the inside leading to tracking/cross firing, the plugs in theory should be water tight, but as said check these as some are less water tight than others.
Is the oil leak on the nearside of the engine ?, all up the block, if so check carefully the oil pressure warning switch, these leak, and can empty sumps of oil very quickly!!
