Looks like ive got the common ICV problems on my Escort,

Looking at gettin the ICV off today to give it a clean up, but does anyone have any ideas on where this ICV is? lol i've been searchin the internet but not really sure what is it im lookin for lol, 8mm bolts and a wiring plug? can anyone direct me to where i will find this bloody thing pretty please!! lol

I seem to have come across a few people saying that, but its knowing what im taking off, is actually the ICV lol, there's a few plugs and bits and pieces there, dont wanna do the wrong one!

 

Is it the cylinder shaped thing on the left with the blue sticker on it and black plug?

weird tho, cos i've read that apparently the ICV are held on underneath the inlet manifold and with 2 8mm bolts and that ya have to go under the car to get to it?, but this is held on by 2 screws and accessible from the top!?

The two screws actually hold the two halves of the valve together.

The two bolts just behind them are what you need to undo to remove it, and the lower one looks like a pig to reach!

That second bit? can they be left on the car and sprayed from there? Have got the first half off (the bit with the screws) and have used plenty of carb cleaner on that, so would leavin the other bit on be a problem or has it got to come off?

Congratulations on not knurdling the screws.

The other half is the chamber that the solenoid blocks off/opens up to allow more or less air to be redirected into the inlet manifold. As long as the piston can move smoothly inside there it should be fine. Stick it back together and see if it's any better.

You've been a star! Ill make sure the bit ive covered in carb cleaner is all dry, put it back together and then update on it! lol

It wasn't all the time i was havin probs, like this mornin been down the shop to get a few bits for the car n it was fine but on monday it weren't so...i think its gonna be hit and miss as to if i know just yet or not but will let ya know!

Whats the fault with the car does it keep on cutting out.

 

If it keeps cutting out it could be a whole basketful of things. Hopefully this sort it out for you.

 

The information you were given relates to the later Zetec engine that was fitted to most MK6 Escorts. It had a plastic inlet with the plastic inlet piping. On those, the ISCV is mounted to the underside of the inlet, between the engine and manifold itself.

You're quite lucky to be honest, as it's much easier to remove the one on the cast alloy inlet that you have.

If cleaning the ISCV makes things better, just replace it. Once it's gone, cleaning it is only a short term solution in my experience.

 

well, after cleanin the ICV it still seemed to be stickin and eventually comin back down to normal idle speed! Will find out when it gets taken for a decent run if its still doin it or not! lol

It has started on occasions, when slowing down for roundabouts and juctions etc the revs wont come down below 2k, and on idle it varys between sitting at 1.5k or flutuating between 900-1200k....

all idea's have led to ICV in my book, but not too sure now

It doesn't do it all the time either tho, so was thinkin i was catchin the problem early, but now who knows! lol

 

My cossie ISCV used to be shit on my car.I used wd40 lubricating oil and it still reved up and down every now and then.A friend of mine said soak the valve in brake fluid for about 10 mins.I did this neary 2 years ago now and its been spot on.
