Default Portable air conditioner reccomendations?

me and heat do NOT get along

a few years ago i bought an airconditioner on ebay but boy did i buy a lemon, its huge, heavy, doesnt cool very well and is BLOODY NOISY.

so, anyone got any realworld experience and can reccomend a decent airconditioner to cool a smallish bedroom thats not too noisy and not silly money.

ta

hard to put into words and context in writing really. also depends on make and model. if it's really important, you want to be looking at models with inverter drive on them so that the fan and compressor speeds can be modulated and soft start.

your best bet is to go listen to some installed somewhere.

I've got a sanyo split system in our loft conversion bedroom. The unit is about 5 feet above the bed and I can easily sleep with it in quiet mode. The system was about £400 and I mounted everthing myself.

Then you need a specialist to come to plumb and purge the pipes. Probably cost £150 for that.

Makes the room ice cold in about 15 mins when set to quiet mode, takes about 2 mins when flat out.

Most decent air conditioning manufacturers now do a domestic range of splits, these feature a virtually silent outdoor unit.

Quoted figures from the manufacturer I sell are in the order of 38/25 dBA high speed fan/low speed fan and 46 dBa for the condensing (outdoor unit).

Copper insulation and fitting £250 - £350 dependant on run/complexity etc...

All portable units have a very limted use factor....less manufacturers now sell them and it is a declining market...

The plus side of a split is that you are investing in energy effcient heating and that some (not all) now feature inverter driven compressors...

a lot of people don't realise that the a/c system can be run in reverse to heat a room very efficiently, especially when compared to other forms of electric heating
