Question escort van any problems i should be aware of ?

Hi there guys found an escort van,
1998 with 96,000 miles.

only problems on it are few scabs on paintwork (not a problem for me)

all clean inside and out.

what problems do these vans suffer from. its cheap enough. jsut dont want to get bitten in the ass.

Reliable as a primus stove, mainly due to their simplicity. No ECU or engine electronics to worry about, they're pretty old school
As mentioned rust is what generally takes these off the road, rather than mechanical failure.
Obviously standard rules apply, an engine with service history has half a chance of being better...

Like normal escorts, front wishbones rust through. Also the brake load valve on the rear beam corrodes away and is a potential MOT failure. And basically all the body panels lol.

crackin motors, look for roy across the rear cross member above the shock absorber mounts as these can be costly to repair. same again avross the rear. the engines will last forever if theyve been looked after. a high miker with history is always better than a low miler with no history.

happy hunting

Bombproof really but do the belts unless the guy can 100% prove they have been recently.usual escort probs with fuseboard, lower arms go clunky and of course rust but IMHO best vans by far for the money/size as the ford transit is the greatest van ever bar none but a big old girl!!!!
