But on the plus side. BP's tax bill helps prop up the NHS over here.

And what kind of dickhead goes swimming in carconogenic crude oil!

Thing, that gets me is that the company who owned the rig that exploded have said "nothing to do with us" and then BPs response has been shockingly slow. Their disaster management teams should be sacked! Obamas rhetoric hasn't helped. What might have been better was him saying "we will send whatever help BP request to contain and deal with this" not just complaining about their failure to deal with it.

Did laugh when a protester the other day said "Why isn't the Quen of england here?"

If want to live a life with oil we must accept accidents will happen, although that doesn't mean to say BP should get away with whats happened and the way they're dealing with it.

Folks

I think that is one of the most distressing sets of images i have seen in many mnay years

Im not a green party member etc but my god that is shocking

I think BP have acted somewhat slowly in terms of actions i think Obahma as acted somewaht excessively

I think BP should with there partner companys from that rig pick up the bill for the entire clear up etc

Bhopal , Exxon Valdez the american government picked up HUGE costs

BP needs to do the right thing and not have to be TOLD to do the right thing

WIth all of that in mind however the moment the shares drop below Ł2.75 i will buy yes somewhat hypocritical but im not looking to Slay BP just recognise there actions are a little slwo

Why

Long term they are one of the biggest profit making and dividend paying stocks on the LSE therefore i will look to make an opportunity for my Sons future .

Shocking pictures

Quite why those capable to do something about it just get on and do it, then they can squabble about who should be paying for the clean up after.

its a tragedy yes, but its going to happen many more times yet as profits are more important.

Clean up costs still wont wipe out BP profits.

Shocking piccys...

BUT...

It was widely publicised that the accident was one in a million chance! All 11 safety systems failed! 10 out of the 11 were made by US companies in the US... Also all the other deep sea rigs around america and regions also WOULDN'T been able to avert a disaster if it happened on their rig....... So just think if it was Exxon, Obama would being raping their arse more than BP's!

Also a second comment Oil can be seperated very easily from water (as Water is a lot heavier hence why it floats on the surface) but the scale of the filter must be huge just to keep up with what's coming out of the well!

Apparently it coming out of the well at 20,000 barrells a day Still! (even 80% of it is being capped to a tanker on the surface) but 20,000 barrells is 2847 litres a MINUTE coming out under 10BAR pressure... That's a fuckin unbelievable.... out of this 30cm thin pipe

is there still too much debris from the blown up rig to bring in a mobile platform, fit new pipe at the join you see there and carry on collecting oil??

I think from what i've been reading is that BP + Exxon have got a 2 rigs not far away and are attempting to penetrate into the same well to release some of the pressure... So the new pipes will split the pressure between the rigs..But as the well is quite a few miles under the seas bed it's gonig to take until July to reach the same depth of the original one which is capped.

You can't just joint up a pipe 2 miles down with 10 BAR pressure fluid coming out... Hence there best option was to 'cap' it... But it's still eaking even now so for another 6 weeks it's still gonna be spewing out into the sea

How do Chop/CossieBOB/Roger feel about seeing a rig in that state? Seeing as 11 people died iirc that's maybe 40-50% of a shift? Christ it would shit me up....

10 bar pressure isnt that much to be fair, messy and difficult yes but doable for an emergency repair especially if you can use that joint. Im sure you could make a custom robotic rig capable of the job.

I think its the 2 miles down bit thats the issue

whats funny and not publisiced is the fact it is an american made and maintained section of pipe thats burst
bp rightly have been slated but the term smokescreen or scapegoat springs to mind ,especially as far as mr obama

anyway just my 2p worth

I think it was the oil rig exploding that made the pipe burst rather than shoddy manufacture

Where did you get the numbers? 20000 bbl a day would be 2208 l a min.

The new wells will effectively redirect the well flow.

10 bar is fuck all. 150 psi. It's way more than that i'm sure.

I guess seeing it brings reality home but wouldn't affect me or where i went. Shit just happens sometime

i think it was 11 people too and 2 worked for our company. It's not 40-50% of the shift though. That rig i'd guess had near 150 people on board. Over 100 anyway.

I'm not sure how obama would've reacted had it been an american company. He seems to be getting involved in things he doesnt know about. I've seen some of the reports in progress and yes there seem to have been some monumental fuck up's but not just by BP. Halliburton were the cement company with the suspect cement job, transocean own the rig and blow out preventers which didnt function etc etc.

I hope it all comes out in the end.

I tell you one thing for those poor bastards on the rig having to choose between burning to death or jumping 150 ft into the sea it must've been awful. Obviously life preservation takes over but to me the thought of jumping is almost enough to kill me!

Fair point, but can you imagine, further to this, what those poor bastards felt like in the WTC, having to decide between burning to death or a jump to your death. Both of which would be long enough to feel it coming.

Off topic I know, but it makes you realise.

Wouldn't 150ft drop kill you anyway? Hitting the water is like hitting tarmac at that height!

I kinda hear you on that one, but its not as though it's the new Katie Price love interest or who is winning the World Cup. This is an epic global disaster that has killed people and animals (and is doing more damage day on day) and will have a lasting effect on the whole world.

It can do but i think it was over 90% of the Piper Alpha survivors jumped from the platform and they are much higher than the floater that was the Deep Sea Horizon.

It may well be low pressure (10bar) as its the volume that has the effect.

Example, stick 50psi in a bike tyre and it pops (give you a scare) Stick the same in a truck tyre and it would take your head off.

America now needs to stop the slating of BP and get onboard to help in any way they can and get this mess under control.

Apparently if you jump from a great height into water, you should clench your buttocks to avoid a sudden in-rush of water.

Theres a tip that may one day save your life.

I was going on barrells being 205L chop.. As we use 205L drums (barrells) at work.... These hold 205litres with a bit of space for pressure change.

Horrible really, but as Chop has said it's the US companies products which have failed the 11 systems!

Its not just BP who are involved, the rig owners and a service company are all deep in the poo
they will be fighting for years about whomis to blame, and there will be alot of heads rolling ,not just from bp.
