Good old Halfords
Fitting a CD player into my lady friends narrow boat this weekend as the tape deck in there now is a POS and I had a spare. Thought I'd be clever and solder in an ISO plug to make things easier in the long term.
Trip to Halfords and I was offered the male ISO plug with bare wires for the bargain price of £15.99. I was somewhat puzzled so asked the lad to double check the price as surely it should be £5.99. Nope £15.99 it was
Quick look on E-Bay at lunch yesterday and today my packet turned up with the plug for.....
£1.94. And 95p of that was the postage
Question is I'm not sure what to do with the spare £14

They wanted 20 pound for a bulb for my Volvo. I said wasn't that expensive? And I was told flashy cars, needed flashy bulbs. (Pun wasn't intended). I went to a local place and got two for a fiver, and he said they were the same for many cars.

Get a trade card..... much cheaper by far, £10 bulb for about £3
The advanced range of tools are great quality and really cheap if you have a trade car, 99 quid for a socket set of near snap-on quality that would cost you the best part of a grand from the man with a van and he wont replace parts at 4pm on a sunday afternoon.
Retail price on bulbs and stuff is horrific but to the general public who buy such things once in a blue moon and want the reassurance of being told which bulb they need and being offered it fitted for a few quid, it makes perfect sense.
Great business model IMHO, they manage to tap into the profitable retail side of things and at the same time are great value for trade.
Wish I owned them

Going to Halfords for bulbs and stuff is like going to B&Q for building supplies. You just don't.
Get a Halfords trade card.
Bought some Mobil 1 Motorsport 15w 50 last night for £38.99 instead of the £47.99 retail price in there. Cheapest EBAY price is £30.00 + £8.00 delivery and Opie Oils Members price of £38.69.
£3-£5 bulbs are normally under £1.
Batteries get 30% roughly off retail price.
Only problem is anything stereo or cleaning products do not get discount :headbang:

Depends how good you are at blagging
A mate of mine worked there, so I went in one night and he wasn't working. The guy I spoke to said as you know him I will sort it out anyway as he heard about me and my brother's cars and knew who I was
But I had business cards, letterhead, etc with me just incase.
Go into your local branch and ask the person behind the parts counter how you can get a card

Go out and get one mate, saves a lot of cash when you need to use Halfords. You get discount on anything "Service" related, so tools, parts, oils, batteries, etc
I went in Halfords in a pair of dirty overalls and a letter head from my mate who owns his own hgv workshop and got trade like that, i dont use them for polish ect but there tools are ok

I see a Halfords young lad fitting a new battery on a Range Rover, i wonder if he knew how to reprogram the key to the becam system and reset the sunroof and windows and enter the eka code to reset imobiliser, if not the costomer is going to get one hell of a bill from Land Rover, I'm sorry i have not seen anyone in Halford i would trust to put a new battery in my torch, i am sure there is some very good staff in Halfords and i apologise to anyone on here that works for Halfords.
In our Halfords you can get 5 say spade terminals for £ 4 odd but go round the corner and go in electric wholesale store and get a 100 for a few quid

Tell me about it, you should see the pigs ear they made of putting a disc changer in a friends car! Lifted the boot carpet up, screwed it striaght through the boot floor with self tappers then just left the carpet rested up against the side of the changer. Fooking muppets!
£1 per clip?! I used to get them either free or 16p altough I did go threw about 8 a week
just go in and blagg it, just ask what do i need to qualify for a trade card
i said i worked for kwik fit and used a pals pay slip. they didnt ask for ID or anythin.
I loved their sponsorship of motoring on Dave. Made it look as if Halfords employees are knowledgeable and skilled mechanics
I once went into Halfords to get a price for trailing arm bushes for my brothers car, and the bloke at the parts counter asked me what a trailing arm was.....
I didn't explain, I just drove the extra 3 miles to the motor factors
