Default Air filters...

i need an air filter at some point, and just debating in my head wether to just get one that fits directly onto the compressor housing, or have a 90 degree ellbow come off the compressor and have the filter in front on the engine/behind the grill

there is ample space there, as in i can stand between the slam panel and the enigne lol

opinions welcome, but i need to measure the compressor housing to get a direct fit one.

i only want a K&N or Green cotton filter, dont do pipercross foam one etc as i dont like them

Alloy pipework and/or 45deg/90deg elbow (can't quite tell from the angle that pic is taken how much space you have between front and turbine inlet and angle) and have the air filter placed behind front grill to the side of the engine away from the rad I'd opt for. Plonking a filter straight onto the turbo will induce heat and also be hit from heat coming in through the rad especially when the fans start.

Don't think heat soak through the filter will make much difference with that turbo mate
Anyway, the intercooler will sort any heat issues

My vote goes for directly on the compressor housing

Never been a fan of a filter straight onto turbine inlet myself so that's my opinion at least anyway. May just decide to go with that as most simple and will do the job anyway.

well, if if i can get one that fits right on so be it, as at speed, i really cant see heat soak being an issue as there is a fuck load of space in the bay.

the only thing about having it in front of the neigne means a fair bit of pipework, and i want to keep it minimal.

Keep things simple then mate and see how it goes then as if worst came to worst all you'd need to do is get hold of some pipework to plonk the filter on the end of anyway rather than straight onto the turbo.
