ST Rev counter on BT with coil packs
I have swapped my BT rev counter for ST rev counter as I am now running coil packs on my P8.
Strange problem, it still reads 1/2 what it should be, but when I turn the engine off with the keys the engine does not stop, but the rev counter appears to work ok!
I can take the keys out and it still runs! I can not drive it like this as the steering lock would come on!
If I take the multi connector out of the light cluster the engine stops.
Isoun there a wire I need to disconnect from the rev cter or multi plug?
Any ideas?

I assume there must be a difference in the wiring or rev counter, as something is keeping the ecu alive by feeding it, hence the running on, I would start by scouring the wiring systems of each to the clocks, in particular where the rev counter signal comes from.

I have taken every thing out and refitted tonight, and thankfully the not turning off issue has gone, so it turns off ok, but the rev counter still reads 1/2.
Can I connect the 2nd ignition amp to pulse the rev counter?
Does the rev counter feed go to the ecu first then to the rev counter?
For example my secs monitor takes its signal from the ecu pin 25, is this also for my rev counter? any idea what colour lead and were it is on the multi plug on the clock cluster?

Ok, time for an update.
I have been look through posts, and speaking to Kev (kjc300) and he suggested the diode method.

I have tried with temporary wiring tonight and it seems to work!
I will make this more perminant, fit everthing back and see how it goes
Thanks, Kev and others that have given your input, I wonder if this method will also correct my secs monitor? (from ecu outputs) I will try and report back!
