As above. Re fitting my AP clutch and flywheel soon. Is it a good idea to replace the bolts or are the old ones fine?

 

I done my recently and used the same bolts as before, did you have your flywheel skimmed or refaced? and are you running a new ap paddle?
if its the same one you had before then just check that there is no glazing to the face of the flywheel and get a metal straight edge to check that the flywheel is flat, also check the condition of the cover plate for glazing and warping it will look a bit like a worn brake disc.

 

Yeah the flywheel is being skimmed before fitting, and the whole clutch has only done 1,000 miles. Paddles and cover look like new.

 

make sure the surface is not smooth as it will glaze when trying to grip so have it 'roughened'.

 

Flywheel bolts should be replaced or at the very least threadlocked.

 

Used bolts twice and never had any problems with the bolts, even clutch supplier said they weren't neccassary to replace, will ask mechanic if he used loctite threadlocker though.

 

i replaced my flywheel bolts with ARP's as they were cheap, but the clutch retaining bolts were quite expensive from Fords so i didn't bother, thread lock and made sure threads were good and lasted the last 8 months of abuse on my AP 4 paddle.
