Default Cosworth replica 3 door red

few piks of the work ive done on my cosworth replica as one or 2 of you wanted to see,
heres how the car started off £900 off pistonheads, waxoyled from new, no rust, never welded and the odd mark here and there, stored the last 7 years, im the 2nd owner

then tried out some diff wheels for the mot, passed with flying colours and stuck with rs2k 5 spokes for a year as
they set it off good and i got a hell of alot of looks in it

then i blew the 1st engine so changed it for anither 1.6, that one pissed out oil all over the place and i managed to wreck
the 4 speed gearbox internals aswel, so i put a 2.0l pinto in and a 5 speed box, had some problems with the flywheel bolts coming
loose 2 times so engine was back out 2ce, finaly fixed that problem
new type 9 painted

then i had a crash over christmas at gallows corner roundabout 6am, was clear so i headed to go straight over,
focus pulls out onto the roundabout without looking i pushed the horn he stops blocking 1 lane so i got to change lane and he pulls out then blocking 3 lanes
so i swerved back over to the left and had no choice but to hit him, then a van hit him in another lane beside me, the focus had 3 young kids in the back and his wife,
his focus was completely written off by me hiting the back of his car i thought my car would be mashed but his foam in the rear bumper saved my car tbh, i got £40 off him there and then for a new bumper for my car which cost £20 on ebay posted
so i wasnt too unhappy about it but tbh he shouldnt be on the road if hes driving like that, the van driver was furious, all ive had to do is bend my wing back to shape
and change my bumper, amazingly his wife was trying to put the blame on me and the van driver and didnt want him to hand over £40 to me
Name: DSC00491.jpg
Views: 830
Size: 184.5 KB

then i thought id try and modernise the interior a bit with a black dashboard, which tbh just looked sh!t and i took it back out

Name: DSC00538.jpg
Views: 883
Size: 99.5 KB

then had water geting into the drivers footwell 2cm deep in the rear apssengers footwell aswel, so carpet come out and i was amazed to find no rust
turned out problem was the twat who changed my windscreen and also at the same time broke the scuttle panel for me, and the window
fitted cracked 2 days later due to him leaving broken glass behind it so in all cost me £120 for windscreen bodged and £60 for a new scuttle panel,
and ive got absolutely no where, payed another £110 for a properly fitted windscreen, so basically £290 for my windscreen changed
also fitted a brand new xr3 steering wheel
Name: DSC00580.jpg

Name: DSC00581.jpg

then someone threw a brick at my car at 2am, and to this day i still dont know why and i havent got round to fixing it
Name: P1040050.jpg
Views: 812
Size: 166.7 KB

then i got fed up with my mates telling me the car looked shit standard, even though i thought it looked good, so decided to make a cosworth replica,
so bought a few fibreglass parts which tbh were crap and i hate working with fibreglass,
my 1st idea was to build a rs500 rep but the fibreglass front bumper didnt fit as perfect as i wanted,
and genuine rs500 items cost more then an arm and a leg, so started collecting 3 door cosworth parts,
took a while to find em all and got pissed about on ebay with some parts arriving not as stated like this bumper below
Name: DSC00670.jpg

Size: 106.1 KB
Name: DSC00665.jpg
Views: 868
Size: 139.3 KB

so sent em back got my money and bought decent items
Name: DSC00692.jpg
Views: 820
Size: 73.0 KB
Name: DSC00691.jpg
Views: 842
Size: 106.4 KB
Name: DSC00534.jpg
Views: 800
Size: 63.6 KB

because the car was red but faded and looking a bit orangey i had to get a paint match, which tbh was doen perfect by the paintshop down mawney road, and when i was planing on geting a full proper respray one day when ive got the money i thought theres no point in spending hundreds on geting bumpers and arches painted properly when the rest of the car has small marks here and there and needs a respray anyway, so £80 in all its cost me to get enough paint to paint the parts myself, and yea its not the shinyest paint ever but it matches and looks decent enough so for £80 im not complaing

so heres a few piks of parts being painted

Name: DSC00595.jpg
Views: 817
Size: 90.8 KB
fibreglass rs500 one that didnt get used

Name: DSC00626.jpg
Views: 824
Size: 220.0 KB
Name: DSC00662.jpg
Views: 778
Size: 74.1 KB

i dont know much about making paint shine etc but i used a bit of red t-cut and a rough cloth and its made it shiny and smooth enough for me and got most of the orange peel out
then started fitting parts, the towing eye is diff to a cossie one so i had to bend that a bit to get the bumper to fit
Name: DSC00701-1.jpg
Views: 852
Size: 129.9 KB

i also didnt realise that the front wing was actualy mishaped from the crash till i fitted the cosworth bumper and grill so bent that back out
the rest of the piks is basically fitting the kit below, trial and error with the arches, ive never done anything like this before so..
and ive still got to get an exhaust, bonnet and vents, take tow bar off, standard 3 door cosworth suspension, wheel centre locks and a faster engine
only prob ive got with the car atm is a sevierre vibrating when slowing down and even when i rev the engine on stand still if anyone knows what that is?
i suspect gearbox/engine mounts but dont know for sure

that looks good fella - shame about the accident.

I would put ambers as they go better with the red.

Luckily mine has already got the kit and interior fitted but some of it needs work.

Gonna have to put a post up about mine soon too.

that looks like a really good rust free shell. if your working on a budget have you thought about xr4 bits??
12v V6 you can pick up for like £150 with ECU and everything required and thats 165bhp.
alternativly a pinto turbo, or 24v cosworth.
keep us updated

cheers for the comments, i do want an exhaust but the one thats on there is noisy enough and the 3" backbox on my escort got annoying hearing that all the time, so im looking for something that looks the part and doesnt make much noise if that exists lol, nah wasnt sold in scotland it came from windsor, as for engine id like turbo as i like the sound of chav valves but i also need something economical, im geting about 18mpg with the pinto atm and i use the car every day, but i think thats due to the ignition timing being a bit off, was gona go for 2.0l zetec with a set of bike carbs but i dont know how good that is for mpg yet, fibreglass isnt brilliant and tbh i wouldnt have much of a clue what im doing towards modifying fibreglass as it always seems to crack on me, but ronnie amis bought my fibreglass bumper and seems to look the part on his track car, lower spoiler is in the shed awaiting fleabay, and i like original interiors and being that im building a rep i should go for a cossie one, but with how old cossie interiors are and how worn they are and how they look and the budget im on its not to my taste too much atm, wanted to go for mk6 escort recaros if its possible to fit em and get the door cards professionally done, but otherwise no serious thoughts on interior atm, the one ive got is like new apart from the door cards which aint bad for a 200000 mile car, but i have actualy falen out of the seat when ive flung the back end out before lol so need something to hold me in, and the only reason the tow bar is left on is because of the wankers down my road that park bumper to bumper of which cracked my old rear bumper and left a nice scrape on the rear light if you look close up, i try to keep the car on my drive but being we have 5 cars in my household and only 2 fit on the drive its not always possible, so only leaving it on to save having to spend more money atm

i have a tow bar on myn and twice people have rear shunted me at the lights and the tow bar has taken the majority of the impact.
you should be getting more mpg than you are, have u tried tuning the carb setup?
a zetec and bike carbs although is a good option, by the time u have had engine mounts made, bell housings adapted, and the costs of all then installation you would be better off buying a ratty old sapphire cos putting the YB engine, diff and brakes from that on your car and selling the rest as spares imo

Looking cool mate, keep up the good work. Take your time and don't just throw it together like I did mine (as it's in bits again).

Well done mate, looking good.
Always good to see people building replicas, not everyone can afford the real thing (insurance, cost to buy etc) we all share the enthusiasm for these cars.
Keep up the good work mate

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=REanv...eature=related coleyst200's vid is good motivation for anyone thinking of building a replica btw, and if anyone has a x4i with standard 3 door coworth wheels on please let me know as my wheels rub on my dampers without spacers and i cant get hold of standard cosworth dampers anywhere but can get xr4i dampers cheap as chips if cosworth wheels will fit without rubing?

I'm just get so pissed off about it when I see a beauty like yours. I don't mind seeing the propper Cozzys cuz they aint as rare....this is over four years ago....I reckon it was as good, if not a touch better than yours, and I aint seen another auto version since, so how rare are these mk1 2 doors? How many left in original form? Not saying I wouldn't have repped mine coz I would've, but there can't be many originals?

Need to sort out the mk2 2 door.....
