Default Best oil for 400bhp saff

As above really,

Not had the car long and I'm unsure what grade/brand of oil is in it

I want to give it a good service on the weekend when I get home but dont want to use the wrong grade as I'm told if a car has ran semi, then you change to full synth, the car will just burn it off???

Sorry if this is a stupid question ..but theres ALOT of money went into the engine and I dont want to ruin it

Many thanks in advance

Cheers for that buddy...Just been on opie there and its quite cheap!

Dont know if it makes any difference but the engine has done less than 5k since extensive re-build

Thanks for the replys people!...are there pros and cons to using
the 2 different oils suggested?

I heard the silkolene (now Titan) is awsome
however I've heard the same about mobil 1 so just want a
comparison really

cheers

Either oil is good, for my money it would be silkolene, engines don't burn oil unless there is a problem, but some forced induction engines like the yb/cossie can use oil, most of this passes past the turbo "seals" and is quite normal to lose a bit here if used very hard.
Cossies don't like thin oils, but as yours is that new you would most likely get away with a 40 weight oil, unless you use it hard in which case use a 50 weight such as the titan.

Im probably the only one to chemically have oils tested after Topspeed runs the oil that was still in Spec & lubricating 100% after such a test was Silkolene. Castrol RS was proved to useless & out of Spec within 2 runs. I use 5/40 for Topspeed running because that was best for the extreme test i put oils through for normal usage 10/50 . As stated its no longer called Silkolene but is the same oil.
