Best way to join the "trousers" part of exhaust ma
Hiya, im gunna attemp to fix my exhaust leak today. Its leaking from just underneath the turbo, where the "trousers" part joins to the downpipe i think. There is no gasket in there, and its coming out the side. So what would be the best stuff to use to re-join it?

Mike,
No gaskets are used or needed, you've just got to make sure the
mating surfaces are perfectly flat and clean. Then, if possible use
NEW bolts/nuts that are evenly done up (progresively), and tight.

also refit using new locking nuts - normal nuts will vibrate loose over the space of a few miles
or use them washers with the locking tabs that fold onto normal nuts to lock them in place

OK Mike,
This STEEL gasket was fitted to a small turbo Es Cossie,
running no more than 1.2 BAR boost (about 17 LBS/PSI)......
Because one of the nuts is very difficult to tighten up on
the 4x4 manifold, it will allways be the weak point
(unless it is correctlly/evenly tightened)........
This failure is NOT the fault of the steel gasket as such -
but you can see from the pics, the damage is the result of
incorrect fitting, it highlights the fact thar ALL 4 nuts/bolts need
to be done up correctly, and checked for tightness -
perhaps every 2k miles or so

ok, been outside all day, and found out it wasnt just that, that was leaking. The manifold gasket has also blown on number1, so i have stripped it all down, and its ready for a new gasket. Bollox.
