Finally got the S1 to start after engine rebuild and efi conversion, engines had crank regound, new mains and big ends, block rebored and honed, new pistons, gaskets and oil seals. Engine had a brand new Burton oil HP oil pump fitted as well, Oil pressure light was out at initial start up, but once the engine warmed up the oil light was flickering, did not notice straight away due to having to work the throttle from the engine bay. I removed the oil filler cap and the inside the rocker cover was dry. Any ideas ?

Shit mate!! Thats not what you need after a fresh build!!
Is there oil to the filter? Did you refit the pickup pipe? Did you clean all your oil ways? Did you put enough oil in?

 

oh no.

What oil pressure spring do you have? A burton HP oil pump is a copy part with a 10quid spring inside for higher pressure.

What oil pressure switch do you have? A cosworth one will turn the light on below 20psi.

How long was it running for. ?









Before you start any new engine you should cover all the rockers and camshaft with oil then fit the rocker cover.

Turn by hand at least 4 or 5 turns with no spark plugs in the head.

Then turn the engine over with starter motor untill the oil is flowing all round the engine. I norm remove the oil feed pipe and put it into a plastic bottle so i can see when oil pressure is flowing well.

Then refit the plugs and oil feed etc. Start engine and warm up.


If you have no oil pressure after doing this, you would have an issue with pump, crank or some sort of pickup issue block etc..

 

Heard a few horror stories about Burton pumps now. I used a standard auto pumps oil pump on mine.

Karlos yep I am sure I refitted the pick up, going to drop the sump off tonight to check the strainer is not blocked already, plenty of oil in it, up to max mark on the dipstick, Will also check if the oil filter has oil in it.
Versus Creation it has the std oil pressure switch fitted, I spun the engine over prior to fitting the plugs, but did not check for oil coming out of the pipe to the turbo, To tell the truth I was not expecting it to start as it has been a trying my patience for some time now.
