hi, sorry if this has been asked a thousand times before but i am wondering on the cost of converting my 4x4 cossie to rwd only. as much as the 4x4 goes around corner's well i cant help being bored and want to make it a bit more exciting. so im asking what part's i will need to change/buy and if anyone has recently done it what did it cost? thanks in advance and sorry for the newbie question.

 

You obviously need the gearbox from 2WD, presume you can use a 4x4 diff still, not sure what would need to be done up the front.

Would not think it's expensive to do.

I'm doing this very thing to my saph at the moment.

The way I'm doing mine is by leaving the front suspension setup the same by utilising the front outer C.V. joints but with the joint 'socket' machined off to keep the front wheel bearings from collapsing.

You will need:

Gearbox,
Propshaft,
Speedo cable,
Gearlever and all the trims,
A special gearbox mount cradle from Ford and mount (allows a 2wd box to fit into a 4x4 shell. A 2wd cradle won't fit. I will try to dig out the part number.),
2wd sandwich plate (goes between block and bellhousing),
Possibly clutch cable (not sure if 2wd and 4wd are the same),
2wd rear beam, diff and shafts (could probably use 4wd stuff but don't know how strong they are),
2wd starter motor,
2wd release bearing,

Obviously you will need to take the front shafts and diff out but I can't see any reason why the original sump can't be used.

That's all I can think of at the top of my head.

 

if u pull the drive shafts out on the front and leave the sump u will have two great wholes in your sump that will fill up with crap.
i suppose you could bung them up but just buy a 2wd sump.
u can sell the 4x4 stuf for a similar price so i cant see it costing that much.

 

If you go for 2WD sump you'll also need 2WD oil pump and oil pick up pipe.
