money isnt really a issue to be honest, it will cost what ever is costs, as im making the car 4 myself im not planning to sell it on or anything

why not buy a rwd cossie and start with a better base
If you did your own fabrication, welding, mechanicals etc and wanted about 300BHP I think you could do it for less than £10k. It's the time it would take if you were paying someone to do it where alot of the extra cost would come in. Then more power say 400 BHP will just cost as much as a Cossie would to get to the power.
But agreed, its hell of a lot of car for that money. If the thread starter wants a full spec etc get in touch with me or get onto www.oddkiddcreations.co.uk
for alot of people tho its in the building to do it there self, but for anyone who cant build it or just cant be bothered, having seen oddkidds rwd it is a billy bargain for sure,
So if he is serious it would be madness not to buy jano's even if its only as a starting point.

I love building cars myself, but if you can get something already done for half the price as a starting point, then you can pull it apart and redo it yourself for FAR less money than starting from scratch anyway as you have all the bits there.

Mind you, saying that, no-one seems to sell them whole any more, so go ahead and knock yourself out.
i'd love to do this to my orion but funds aren't there, i wouldn't be after 500hp though i'd stick with whatever the car had to start with and use all the std running gear too.
but then i think why not just buy a saph, and drive it
they're not that different really. its like a size down thats all. if i did 4x4 my orion i know i'd have to bufty it at the same time and that starts to get really expensive as i found out when i did the engine bay last year

20-40K lolololol if you are doing all the work your self mate it WILL be a lot less that that. 40k is just hilarious.
Your best bet is to buy a rusty cosworth 2-3K and steal the parts from that, or if you can't do it your self do what Muz said and buy the ready made version
IMO if you only wanted 300-350 brake and already had the rst and were going to do all the work your self and not rebuild the engine/box etcetc, you could do it for 5-7k
