Default Focus 1.6 115 Coil Pack 05 Plate

HI,

For over a year now I have been having intermittent faults with the coil pack blowing. This last case, I had the plugs, leads and coil pack replaced and everything was fine, until I had done around 1000 miles and the Coil pack goes again - engine light on, missing etc.

I am getting slightly annoyed by this and I am thinking that it is total design fault of the ignition system on Petrol Fords, but before I go for a diesel or ditch ford completely, is there a common fault that would make a coil pack develop a fault, just after a 1000 miles of driving? I am on my 5th coil pack in 2 years and the car has only done 46,000 miles.

Any suggestions would be welcome, as I have just lost all faith in the car and Ford.

Thanks

Jon.

The coil pack has always caused problems, it's not just Ford either Renault suffer same problem amongst others probably.

If one gets such a problem just a replacement is suffice, for you to have 5 there is obviously something more wrong and I would question why if garages are fitting they are just replacing, I guess it's not under warranty? Do you have any other electrical problems as I'm thinking perhaps it's getting to much power on the input side, PCM problem perhaps?

Thanks Martin for your reply.

It is not under warranty and there are no other electrical problems as far as I can tell.

It seems to miss worse when I ease off the accelerator, I am not an expert on cars, but I am now thinking accelerator sensor/fuel pump/filter or as you say a PCM fault?

It could be numerous causes, and I could spend £500 and still have no solution.. so I am thinking it is best to call it a day and look for another car (Not a petrol Ford)

Thanks

Jon.

It seems silly to me to get rid of it for something which is probably simple, there is nothing special with the throttle control they just have a conventional cable no fly by wire, although the ST does. I would take it to a garage and get it diagnosed, these cars are very reliable normally I can personally vouch for that.

do your washer jets have a seal around the base on the early mk2 focus / fiesta mk6 they never had a seal round the base so water used to get in rest on the top of the engine then kill the ht leads / coilpacks
