gearbox probs?
hi peeps. i have a 1990 S2 rs turbo. i recently renewed the clutch and release bearing. however, upon completion of the job the speedo has now ceised to work. the speedo head itself is ok along with both sections of the speedo cable as well. this only leaves a problem with the box itself as far as i can see. is this a common fault? if it is the box itself which is at fault is there a repair which can be carried out or would it simply be easier to replace the whole box fullstop?
any help would be greatly appreciated

Oh dear mine is exactly the same, is it a new /rebuilt gearbox then? Sounds like its gonna be dear just to get a speedo working, there's no cheap way or rectifying it then?

I do go up Airedale sometimes, but there is also a red one that lives in Airedale, its e reg same as mine, it has 88 spec spoiler, and momo arrows, mine has 90 spec spoiler and an additional top spoiler. My mate lives opposite the other one, so one day you may see two red s2 parked opposite each other. There is also a red G reg that sometimes parks in my street with turbosystems screen top. You think you've got a rareish car then everytime you go out you see the same car, it's even the same colour!
Yeah, i travel all over west yorkshire so i see, seen a couple in dewsbury/batley, probly cus well lanes turbo centre is round there, u any idea where in north/west yorkshire is best to get an RST set-up, just sorting my MK5 RST, gotta make an exhaust for it ect cus the RST one wont fit!, that pic is the one i saw i think, there was 4 lads in it, i was at airedale health centre doing a job
Back to the topic. Remove the retaining pin and lift the speedo gear out and inspect it. If it looks buggered from the outside --> bearings. If the inner hole has gone round --> new 2Ł speedo gear.
Sorry to deviate from topic again but it cant have been me then 'cos there's only been me and girlfriend out in it so far, it'll be the other one that lives in Airedale, i visit dewsbury once a week tho' so could see me there, as for rolling roads the only one i've heard of is well lane, mine needs a setup as well, i don't know how much it costs like
As for the speedo I hope it is a Ł2 job as im rather skint at the moment
