Highspec cosworth brakes?
What are they like. My father in law has them
on his 4x4 sapph. After a couple of track days they are warped. He measured them across to order some new ones and they measured just under 400 mm across. What are they to be that big. Also will 4 pot APs from an rs500 fit 4x4 sapph?
Thanks

4x4 are different to 2wd as the offset is different and are you talking about 'AP racing' aftermarket brakes that have been put on an rs500 or are you reffering to standard 2wd 4pots as ive heard lots of people call std 4pots APs but they arent i dont think
Massive difference in offset, as std offset is 55mm on 2wd and 36mm on 4wd.
Geoff uses on some applications discs, that he simply machines the bell part of and adds alloy bells.
I've been there when in his newer place he skimmed a warranty return pair of discs, by putting in lathe skim one face take out and swap around then do other face, this is a massive no no, skimming needs to be done on both faces by means of backfacing, so the face/s stays constant to the bell.
I've known geoff for years, calipers are great but would find alternate disc bells, or have them straightened before using.
Geoffs monkey fitted a set of brakes on a sierra very badly, such that 100 miles later the metal edge of the outer pad was clonking against the bell, and actually wore part through it, and was wearing through the bolt heads, as they didn't grind the edge of the pads needed to clear, the calipers he reconned also had 2 buggered bleed screws, and when taken apart again had blasting media/grit in them.

so not as much "hi-spec" but "lo-spec"??

I tried them on my last puma and they were much worse than the alcons i had before, despite the disc size and caliper spec of the hi-spec set up meaning i should have had a stronger set up.

How do these ones measure just under 400mm? I thought the biggest you could get under 17s were 330?
he has had to use spacers to fit them and they are bloody close but they go on?
so 2wd offset of 55mm is a wider track than 4x4 36mm??
sorry about questions just trying to understand?

there is an 8mm difference in offset between the 4wd cossie and the 2wd cossie (the top hat is shorter on the 4wd cars) which means you need to have different offsets on the wheels/spokes to gain clearance on the 4wd cars
400mm discs? are you running 19 inch wheels?
the 4wd ones use a different offset for a number of factors, but mainly becaue the suspension geometry is differetn on the 4wd cars and there is also the need for clearance for the front cv's when you put it on full lock between the steering and hub lugs
