For that HP mark i'd say leave it BC and get a CTS stage 2+ box
An MTX conversion is around 1300quid at jano's all in, Or there's the 6 speed ST box that can be used for the same ish sorta money
.
But think MTX your cutting the inner wing out fitting it mate

well its a 2wd mtx75 (sorry guys) well its going to be sort of 250bhp on my turbo but i have plans to buy a brian hanson manifold from jamsport with external waste gate and screamer pipe then looking at a gt28 roller bearing or something of that size ..... but i know what i drive like and after people say that they have broken the cts boxes i know for a fact i would do the same.....
with jano's mtx75 conversion would he fit my lsd in at the same time

sadly an rs turbo diff from either series one or two erst won't fit into the mtx box.
you'd have to get a focus rs diff, which is just a quaife atb diff, about Ł600 on its own.

If your gonna keep the s1 for the rest of your life and never sell it then consider doing the mtx conversion as it will be cutting or grinding back the inner wing of the car. if you ever want to put it back to standard then there will be a bent inner wing or cutout inner wing. the way s1 are going they are becoming alot more expensive and a much rarer car then s2 or fiesta rs turbo's.
or you could get a late big bearing box and have the ib5 gears and bearings fitted which can take upto 250bhp - there a company called GEARS that does such a box.
i have the same recently fitted and it is much better than the standard box.

The thing with the whole cutting your car is trivial. I can see why not for origionality etc but you only have to cut a small section of the inner skin out, not all the way through and if you did a proper job and smoothed it in you would barely recognise it had been done.

i realy want it done as because i know i wont stop at 250bhp as ive already got my manifold and turbo choice im saving for .
last time i set a target for mods i said i was getting a big valve head and twin 40s for my mk2 and ended up with a 9k aspirated cosworth on 48s lol .... so i might aswel do the job once.

just get the later ib5 box from an later escort same gear box holes as your s1 with the stage 2 + its stronger then the bc box. only get an mtx75 if you got more than 300ps of tork imo
I suppose why spend Ł1800 on a cts 2+ when u can spend for an mtx75 which won't break when you get bored and up the power and then there's the choices of better clutchs etc and you know it's not gonna break not that I'm biased or anything lol
ive heard the bearings in the cts boxes need replacing every so often, its worth upgrading to a fit and forget box, other than worrying when its gunna s**t its self every time it sniffs the first sign of serious boost

well thats it as im only on a stage3 t3 at the mo but it will be pumping out around 25psi and then i was either a t34 on my manifold or save up and get a big manifold and gt28 or something like that. so i think i will kill a cts box .
whats the 6 speed st170 box like for ratios ect compaired to the mtx75.....

thanks
its a shame as i would love to have mk's old xr2 rolling shell thats for sale in the cars section.... then i could put its old inlet back lol
i think jano uses the rs2k boxes, there a strong box, and can handle the power without too much hacking of the inner wing, but heard there gear changes aint too great

well im not sure realy but i would be using it in anger alot of the time when used so would realy want a quick easy change
you could get a mondeo mtx front starter box from a tdci and remove the bellhousing, then mount bellhousing onto the focus gearbox.
job done, front starter with cable shift and hydraulic clutch.
the rs2k boxes need mods to selectors etc, best just to change over to a cable shift etc. if you're going to do the work.

Have you even tried changing gear with an RS2k and MTX75 gearbox. If not how can you comment on how well it changes gear or not. ??
Go compare an RST gearchange with an RS2k gearchange then tell us all how it feels for real not just guessing!
The MTX75 Gearbox has a much better gear change and linkage than any of the RS's FWD. Fact!
Do some decent research for youself then comment on how good or bad something is. Dont take others point of view and experiance as gospel.

The press has no comparison with us.
Some random person from a mag in 1990's gets in to an RS2k and comments about how it feels compared to other cars of the same era.
Get the same person to feel a random S2's linkage (if it has a useable one on it, as most are fukd) then ask them to compare to an RS2k.
That would be a good comparison.
Ive driven rst's with standard boxes, and with quick shift shifters, had a spin in crazycages fiesta which has the focus rs cable linkage box, it is starting to show signs of wear which I couldnt notice, the feel of it was unreal so smooth and precise with very little travel between gears. Dont know what the 170 box is like but you can take it from the focus rs box is one hell of a good mod to consider.
Hope this helps
