I was thinking bout buying that 422bhp escort on ebay but saw it had a standard box which put me off straight away so i was just wondering how much a uprated box will cost but im think im gonna stick to something under 350bhp to be on the safe side

Standard rebuilt box with uprated bearings £600
Dome Semi Straight cut (Fixit style) £2500
Ford Motorsport box £2200
R&D 6 speed dog box £3500
Bara box (standard main shaft)£3000
Rebult standard box was in the car when i bought it lasted around 4 months with 350 bhp then i did 3rd gear, had it rebuilt then snapped the mainshaft going first to second after a launch
Dome box realy nice on the road slightly louder the a standard box ,was running around 380+ untill a bearing in the box went and damaged 3rd.
Ford sport box realy nice to use on the road with a smooth change using a B&M shifter, was running around 400 bhp , its still going strong in a 450 bhp escos.
R&D 6 speed was brilliant when driving hard as the shifts where stupidly quick, was realy loud and could be heard over the exhaust at 70mph cruise. Would only ever have one fitted to a mainly track use car as around town it was a nightmare.
The Bara was the best road use box, was slightly louder than the Dome box but far from anoying for daily use with around 480+ bhp
