Right guys, I'm seriously thinking of breaking the Series 2 and putting all the gear into the XR3. I know most people are thinking "not this again
" but I'm really at a cross roads of what to do. I wish the Series 2 shell wasn't so bloody clean then this would be easier
All the brakes, suspention, engine etc would get carried over into the XR3 and it would turn into a stripped out, no frills track car and the money from selling the Series 2 Shell and interior would go on a re spray for the MK3.
Do I sense talking into me or is this the right move? I know in the long run I would regret not finishing the Series 2 but I really don't know if I want to finish it

so lets get this straight, you want to gut your clean shelled rs and put it all into the xr3,then with the wedge you make from your rs,your respray the xr3........i seeeeeee

Sounds stupid I know, but basically I've got the RST to a stage where everything now needs powdercoating, painting and buftying otherwise it won't look right as I've smoothed all the enigne bay, painted the underside etc which means I've still got loads and loads of work left to do. But when the cars built it's going to thrashed round the track and up the strip and just don't make much sense to use the RST. Unless I keep them both and build the RST to standard
i got yer,you dont want to trash a decent shell doing trackdays etc,and you can always put it back to original if you choose, hope it helps to make your mind up?............
simple one really in my eyes, if you can afford it you have the s2 for shows, weekend driving and a fast xr3 turbo which you wont be bothered about getting scrated by gravel or the odd ding for the track. If you cant afford it then it would be a shame to end up making a mint car tatty, but at the end of the day it is up to you, what ever makes you happy is what counts mate.
You could always just give the car a freshen up in the winter months? just look at the gobstopper, that gets hammered round all the tracks yet it is like a show car.
Keep it and get into a routine of freshening it up once in a while I say, cheap and also keeps you occupied

I wouldn't want to advice you on the best thing to do, but I wouldn't wanna race a good clean solid rs shell if you have a good xr3 shell, but if you do end up selling the shell drop me a pm.
It would be such a shame to break it muz, the 3i is pretty mint and would be good for track use but at the end of the day you have come soo far with thee rst it would be a waste to just sack it off. i think if you had the bay done you wouldn't be considering this but due to lack of progress your getting frustrated with it.
Just Get harry on the case mate and you can make some progress.
Just a quick idea. why dont you sell some of your old parts and the zetec engine etc then buy a turbo engin for cheap slam it in the 3i crank the boost right up then use it for track days ....

muz,
what are you thinking, you are now thinking along the same lines of me. that is a no brainer you build the clean s2 into a show pony, and put the xr into a n/a zetec track basher, job done
you will gain nothing by breaking the clean s2 which you have worked soo hard on only to spend all the money in the xr???

Muz dont do it mate, keep the rs turbo for best and shows, then just build the xr3 up on a budget, if you break it when abusing it, it wont matter so much then as you know it'll be a cheap 2nd hand part source for replacement and you will know least you have a mint rs turbo to.
Ive been there with trying to do 2 cars at once and its a nightmare. I had a grey rs turbo which i wanted to make mint but also had a immaculate mk6 cabriolet which had been a smartly modded show car which i was trying to keep on top of condition wise.
Ive never had a car which i didnt care about the condition of and could just bolt on some 2nd hand bits without buftying them first then just thrashing it about not worrying about stone chips etc, it must be nice and so unstressful lol.

a guy in bracknell has done the same its a great conversion his is around 190bhp and fully restore in oringinal xr3 trim with the rs engine brakes and suspension and it is a nice toy
do what makes you happy mate.its your cash.ive been trawling the net for some sort of project also.id love to stick a g60 in to a mk1 golf for some laughs.will no doubt end up sticking a rs turbo lump in something to rag about.
i put it back to a less spec mate and sold it on.lost a good bit of cash but must have made about 7k back which is no bad.sold my civic type r also and bought my focus and a daily runner for work.best thing ive done but i do miss the old cars to tinker about with.

I think it's like Conor said, there's slot of money sat there doing nothing and I'm frustrated it's not finished. I made a list of what still needs to be done and it got me down. However, I did go up Sunday and take a long hard look at the car and I've found out I'm getting a half decent bonus from work next week so hopefully I can get it somewhere near. Gunna have one last crack at it I think.
