can i put a private plate..G2 ROC on my d-reg rs turbo?

i have a escort rs turbo (d-reg 1986) can i put my private plate on it (G2 ROC)? im just wondering as it starts with the letter G it would make my car look younger if u no what i mean, am i right in thinking,i can only put a private plate on if it starts with the letter D or under? cheeRs!

Its for exactly that reason that you cannot put a newer reg on otherwise I would get a 10 plate for my BMW and everyone woul think it was spankers ( unless they realised it had pre face lift lights, dashboard, bumpers.....)
