Default Not a Ford, but what do you think???

So, after I have had no luck finding a decent ford for this summer that was reasonably priced, a friend put me onto dubs. this one for around $3500 which is roughly £1800

found this jetta GTX, I really like it, just wondering what the general opinion is of it, the only thing I might consider is the two tone paint being flashed over one colour.

Does anyone know what kinds things i should be looking for when i go to view it, tomorrow??? this would be my first dub.

the basic spec for you.

roughly 70K miles.
chipped and cammed
baffled sump
oil cooler
short shift
intake
exhaust
oil cooler
G60 calipers the list continues.

The bad points.... minor oil leak, the idle surges a little now and again, and the exhaust needs a small weld.

Ive got a real soft spot for jettas, the gtx is the same as the 16v gti over here right? If so then the price seems about right. Im not keen on the wheels or paint tbh, and the roof lining is a bit, well, different!

Heres a wee pic of my old one...

Cool car....... I love old skool Dubs

You just need to do a few bits to make it your own now, get rid of that horrid paisley headliner and redo it in plain Alcantara or something and maybe some external paint changes....

Apart from that it looks cool

Its basically a mk2 golf with a boot (like how the orion is to the escort), the mk2 thats pictured above was made from '83 till '91 so Id say its a modern classic. The small bumper versions are becoming more popular, its times gone by folk ditched the small bumpers to make them look newer, now Ive seen folk go to great lengths to do the reverse!

Jetta's are cool mate, used to smoke (literally) around in a gold one when we were younger.

For nearly two grand I hope its tip top though.

Kel, I thought the 16v jetta GTI was badged as a GTI 16v, wasnt the GTX a 1.6 or something? Not picking, just genuinley not sure.

My 16v gti was badged as that here, but something tells me they were badged as something else outside the uk. If you look in the pics in the first post they appear to have the 16v badge on the glove box which is what made me ask x

I think it looks cool

What are your other alternatives for the money?

What about a SVT Focus, how much are they?

Big-Dan.

Yeah the SVT (ST) focus normally run about $8k up, the contour (mondeo) from about $5.5k and up. i could prob pic up a ropey 5.0 mustang for that money but then I would become a douche bag who drives a 5 liter lol.... I could get a civic si or an accord exi, but to be honest, the car scene here isnt the greatest, the dub scene is pretty extensive so there is alot of people who know their shit and would be more than willing to help me out. they always have dub cruises here and i have never once seen a ford cruise ever!!!
