The speedo on the XR3 isn't working. I've tried 2 sets of dials and put a new cable on but it still reads 0. Doesn't even wobble. Is there a chance the drive in the gearbox has gone? I've never heard of this happening before?

 

Sorry to hijack but my spedo is out about 8 mph so wen doin 30 the clock says 22 can you ajust it??

Hi,
I've now got the same problem, its the gearbox end that might be your prob.
If you can disconnect the cable from the gearbox and get someone to sit in the car to watch the speedo. If you spin the cable at the gearbox end the needle should move slightly, if so you need to replace the (god cant remember the part name) part in the gearbox that feeds the speedo.

I can see it would be the drive in the gearbox. Would explain why the chap was so helpful to offer to deliver the car if I bought it. He must have known it didn't work

 

Speedo drive worn in the gearbox is a sign that the diff bearing are worn out.Micky

 

What tyre size do you have? If it's RST in siggy I see that has 17" + on it.

Yeah they are 17s I don't think it will be the wheels making it that far out mate. And should bigger wheel make the spedo go faster than you actually are??

 

No as you say not by that much, could be the speedo out of calibration or if it's always been like it someone has fitted an incorrect one? On the face look for a number this is the TPM number, assume you still have standard box as well?

Does it sit level on zero when not in use?

If it is sitting below zero just push it back round, if not I imagine you will need it re-calibrating?
