You can buy extension kits with plugs attached, or am I missing the point? Plus you only need to actually use two of the wires, not all of em.

the wire i've got is mangled and split, so i need to replace it with a new wire, so i want to put a new socket in first, then run another wire from that socket as a normal extension

ok, that's better/easier to understand, but you've got a 3rd wire?

you will have more than 2 wires but on a master socket you only use 2, (blue with white trace/ and white with blue trace)a master socket is one that has a capacitor in it, usually the front plate splits in two with the bottom half plugging/screwing into the top half, the third orange wire is used if your not using a master socket on your extension ,its purpose is to allow the phone to ring, you will still get a dial tone with just the two wires it just wont ring

ok, here is an update:

this is what some of the better parts of the wire looks like

as you can appreciate, it's not good so i've gone and got the bits and bobs to wire it up properly

and

but none of the colours seem to match up, like so

so what do i put where? factoring in that i need to use the split wiring to wire into the main junction box, then i can put the extension wire to the new point, which i will need to wire up again because it's not got a hole to simply plug into the back of

and, further to these problems, i'll need to run some conduit to put the wire through which is proving harder to find than a cheap house

i've got 6mm to play with and after that i'll need to channel up the concrete floor, which will mean that the mrs is going to go more bonkers than the airline industry when it comes to bits of dust going all over the place
