need one for racing just to do my wheel nuts.

dont want to spend hundreds on one but i want one that will last me.

been looking at this but think it will be a bit cheap and wont do the job?

what do you guys advise and what one

I've got that one mate, and for the price, its absolutely BRILLIANT... hasnt let me down once and comes with a fast charger toooo

 

dont get a snap on one.
after about a year my battery started not holding charge as good and the dealer said it would defo be the battery and sold me another battery at Ł120.....only to then find it was the charger at fault..he sent it away for repair and 4 weeks later he has told me it cant be repaired.waiting for a price on charger now!

 

i like the look of the new makita ones!

I would like one to my mate has a snap on 18v one prob a year old now and it is bloody good and 20 min charge but i dont like spending that sort of money, would be interested to see if anyone has ever used one of the ones in the ebay link thats my sort of price.

 

The snap on one we have at workshop is shit hot better than most people in the work shops 1/2 inch air guns lol even undoes 85 wheel nuts and there torqued to 650nm!

 

I got the Clarke one linked in the thread, it's pretty decent but I have come across a few things it struggles with.

i got a second hand one from a mate through the snap on man and it looks battered but its the nuts, the charger did blow up tho but he replaced it with a brand new charger that does both old and new style battery's, ive also got the versa volt car charger,

used it at the weekend and it was perfect even after being last charged way before christmas

i too have a snap on one its the old style one approx 5 years old never had a problem with it , the lads at work have the new one and have nowt but trouble with batterys and chargers plus they always borrow mine when thiers wont undo something lol!

i also have an ingersol rand (i think thats spelt right) one its nearly as good as the snap on and was bought off ebay for 180 second hand with two batterys and some impact sockets, i dont know how much they are new tho

ive just got a makita 18v 1.6aH impact screwdriver with the 1/4 hex to 1/4 3/8 and 1/2 square drive adapters off ebay, undoes the wheelnuts on the 205 (85nm) a piece of piss. i've already got 4 batteries and a charger as they are the same as my chordless drills so the body on its own cost me just over Ł50 iirc.
ive also got a bosch 110v big bastard for the really tight stuff, crank pulleys and the like.

 

ive been after one for a while and saw those ebay ones, as said they state a higher nm than the cheaper clarke ones and look very very similar shape wise so possibly made in the same place? downside is not knowing the quality as it could break easily!!

 

A friend has a Snap On 18v and a Bosch. Both work faultlessly, but the Bosch does have more power.

I'd stick with a big name though if buying one. I always hear of people with Sealey or other similar brands saying they cant undo wheel nuts etc, although Ive never used one myself.

Bosch, Makita, Hitachi, Panasonic etc but they are going to cost a few quid.

Ive got a Dewalt 18v Impact gun, and its spot on.. 440nm i think. Batteries last aswell.

 

Whichever you choose you want to be using a torque wrench anyway as a final check ,this then means that your gun choice is limited to a snap-on or similar as the others wont shift correctly set wheelnuts .
Take great care buzzing up nuts on an M12 stud ,a powerful gun will overtighten your nuts !

 

i always used a buzz gun to do my wheel nuts up, but what happened to me the other week i will be taking tonys advice and torqueing them all up now,

get a cheap one to do them but always torque them after

 

Use the gun to nip them up. NEVER rely on it for final tightening. Always torque wheel nuts.

They are rather important after all.

 

ive got a snap on one and its well strong. I think its the 18volt one.

 

i've got the 18v snap on one, it's great.

mates have got the clarke and ingersoll rand ones, but the the snap on one is the one that does the job!

 

I have the 18v "snap on" item and use it all day every day and its superb

Not bitching, just interested as i have been thinking about a snap on one.

 

Dont worry about the doing up torgue of the thing as u should be torqueing anyway i know no one dose its the brake away torque u should be going for the new snap on 18v one has a brake away of 650lb ft thats about 880nm not much that wont undo and go for a battery with a high amp hour then it will last longer!

 

Got a snap on 18v at work and theres not much it won't shift. Had 2 replacement batts in under a year thought need to see what price the new lithium ion ones are. Seen a lot of Rally teams using Makita including works teams

 

Out of interest are the impact guns adjustable torque wise or just one setting so to speak?? I've got makita li-on cordless stuff for work and had noticed they do an impact gun, as said fairly cheap if you've already got the batteries!

 

The snap on one is king, ive also used a ingersol rand one which was good.

Also just got the new snap on micro 3/8 gun awsome little toy for lighter work.
