Default Car Insurance for female drivers

I've just purchased a car for my girlfriend as she has her test in a month, I've run a quote through Confused.com and the best was £1081 tpft

The car is a 1998 Fiat Punto 1.2 3 door, I expected insurance for new drivers to be high but that did seem a little high tbh.

She is 19 and technically still a student, she works when she isn't at college but she is off to Uni in September.

Can any of the PF girlies help me out here, I know the price comparison websites don't always offer the best deals so some any details of other companies worth trying would be great.

Thanks in advance

That is a decent quote I'd say anything near £1000 for a first time driver is a damn bloody good quote. My bro is 18 bought a 2004 1.4 Fez £4k it cost and paying £2.2k insurance so £1k seems like a bloody bargain. Still don't understand why women's premiums are SO much cheaper as most of the girls I know have bumped every single lamp post and bumper on the planet and their cars look like they been entered for a bumper car competition.

because 1 in 3 lads in there first year will roll their car apparently

until a man is 40 he will pay more for insurance than a woman (if they had exactly the same car and lived in the same house etc etc.) after 40 a womans goes up because they go through menapors (spellings great i know )

I paid about £1100 on a 1.2 nova when i was 17 and had just passed my test (9yrs ago!) and that was with Diamond.

I used confused.com and found this company www.ecarinsurance.co.uk
I paid just over £300 TPFT for my MR2, but im 26 now and 4yrs ncb. They quoted £500 and something TPFT on the scooby.
Only £150 excess, full RAC cover for £50 and you can do it all online.

for new drivers with little experiance and no ncb insurance is extortionate FACT.

another fact is that insuance for young drivers is TWICE the price for male drivers than female drivers. tried it several times for different friends only ticking the male box instead of female (same girl name etc) and price DOUBLED!!

£1k sounds about right.

also, dont buy into the idea that small eco cars are cheap to insure. very often a bigger family car (that may be a fair bit quicker) is much cheaper to insure. eg. a 1.6 focus instead of 1l saxo. not to mention the focus is a lot safer

I have only had experience of Diamond and they were good when I used them. Don't tend to bother now though.

that sucks big joe, unfortunately fords arent cheap to insure compared to french shitters as fords now all have 16 valves whereas theres still loads of 8 valve french and italian cars about to make insuring them cheap.

Insurance sucks, but cheap if you actually need to use it. Say you pay £1000 for insurance, your car gets wrote off in an accident and so does another car, both worth £2000 each. Insurance company pays out £3000 more than you paid in. Would you rather pay the £0000's per accident?

Try GoCompare as Im sure they saved me £200 on my insurance this year. My Mrs is now put on both my cars as its £50-£100 cheaper per car with her added.

its cheap if you think about it that way but when your car is only worth £500 and they charge you £1700 to insure it 3pf&t its a very big piss take but then thats what you get with all the chav idiots who cant drive on the roads.

But the car you crash into maybe worth £0000's. Then if you don't have a crash your throwing your money to a company for a piece of paper

all depends on if you have a crash or not and if you do if anyone else is involved.

but then we insure for the worst case cenario so it the long run its cheap as you rightly say
