Default 1998 Escort 1.8 Zetec-E T25 Turbo Conversion?

First of all the engine is a 1.8 (115bhp) Zetec-E engine with 58k on the clock. I believe it is the Series 2 version of the zetec-e, the one with mechanical followers and Zetec 16v Printed on the rocker cover.

From what i understand these are the parts needed:

Standard Pistons must be machined to achieve a compression ratio of 8:5:1 (as opposed to 10:3:1)

Series 1 RS Turbo Manifold

Zetec Adapter Plate

Rs Turbo T25 Turbo with -34 Acutator

Boost Pipes to carry the inlet charge to the throttle body.

What else is needed to make this conversion on the 1.8 Zetec-E?? Or is that all the parts that are required. If anybody has done this conversion then any prices will be appreciated.

I am serious about doing this conversion so i will take all ideas into account, but i only want to use a T25 turbo to give a relatively low boost. The car must be kept reliable and full driveable for everyday conditions.

I already have a Collins Performance Power chip, Cat Back Exhaust system, Sports Air Filter, FSE Boost valve. Would having the cat back exhaust affect the back pressure and therefore cause problems??

Overall i am looking for something reliable most of all and not delivering a major boost, that is why i choose the T25 over the T3....

Kind regards,
Daniel

Also am i right to think that if i use the T25 Turbo over the T3, it means there will be no need for an Uprated Intercooler??

cheers cossiecrew

best ppl to speak to about this type of conversion are van aiken (sp) they do this conversion off the shelf for fiestas

i think even with a t25 you would need a cooler as the fiesta turbo uses pretty much the same setup as you suggest

I also think the s2 manifold wont mate to a t25 turbo, dont quote me on that tho

for my conversion I have used new pistons etc to lower the compression, a s2 manifold with a stg 1 t3 turbo, ive also used a 4x4 saph cos intercooler. this is all run with a OFAB fiesta turbo ignition loom and ecu.

standard machined pistons I have been told are only OK to about 10psi which would probably be fine in your case.

also the standard zetec inlet manifold will probably struugle to supply enough fuel, so either a change of inlet is needed or a mapped fifth injector run off a unichip perhaps incorporating a map sensor to run and control the turbo

HTH

Click ma sig for a look at my own turbo project which is very nearly finished. the price for mine is vastly higher than what yours would be, as its been done totally different.

IMO, if ur gonna do it, do it right with an element of over engineering so whatever u decide to do, u know it aint gonna pop first time u give it some large
