Default Thoughts please on Volvo S60 D5 SE

Thinking of ditching the 330ci and getting one of these as a daily drive and for work purposes which is a 200 odd mile round trip on the motorway so should save me some £ on fuel at least and be big and comfy considering I'm 6ft 3.

Anything else worth considering, not sure I want another beemer as they ae very expensive to buy and service, VW's and Audis are too common.

Volvos are no different, the parts can be very expensive.

My old man runs an S80 D5 Auto, top spec, pop-up nav, leather, etc... and its a brilliant motorway car, comfortable, quiet, averages c45mpg at c80mph and has been totally reliable in the 4 years (70k+) that he's had the car. They're also severely good value for money, possibly better value than an S60??

Build quality is slightly worse than the E39 530i that he traded in for it, nothing has fallen off or broken (and its still whisper quiet and worn extremely well) but its just not quite as substantial as his old BM was.

The automatic box isn't as slick as the BM, takes a little bit of getting used to rolling onto roundabouts as it selects the correct gear before spooling up and moving.. the 530i had a brilliant steptronic gearbox that shifted very well manually or automatically.

Cheers,
Grant

I've had petrol 2.0T S60 and diesel D5 S models in the past and preferred the diesel.

I reckon the seats are about the best in the business, and the driving position was spot on for me.

The only criticism I have is that the SE had a truly awful turning circle - the S has narrower wheels and seemed to be slightly better but it still wasn't great. I'd check that before you commit because doing three-pointers to get into parking spaces that other cars just swing into can be embarrassing.

i had one and was a great allrounder ,never had a problem in 3 years ,but the only thing i found was they are a bit tight for space and if your six three i would say it will feel a bit cramped ,and the rear seats are very small even for kids

i've had my s60 d5 (03) auto for 3 years.... its on 140k now... it was an ex company car. 1 owner full history.... alot seem to be like that....

i've done just under 40k in 3 years.... only done servicing, changed fluids (inc gearbox) discs pads tyres....

first week i got it i went for one of these powerclick boxes - cheaper than a remap - i know not technically as good but works well, car is much quicker, no smoke.

it does eat bulbs though!

Found one that is low mileage and has a manual box. Heard about the turning circle being crap too which may be an issue as where I live I have off street resident's parking which is only for six cars and can be tight when full but never had a problem so far. I reckon if my neighbour's brother can get in with an X5 then it can't be that bad.

Ah yes, bulbs... the S80 does have a habit for them too.
