Default E320 CDi or 525i ? Any merc fans?

Right now i have quite a tidy e34 525i manual with 18" wheels, boot spoiler, full leather etc, lovely looking car with 130k miles.
BUT it's a bit slow and i'm bored with it

Now, i've found a tidy w plate e320 cdi with 144k avantgarde, fsh one owner from new, drives really well, no smoke, changes gear fine with no rust issues expect on the lower corner of one of the doors, and the front bumper/bonnet have been sprayed and not quite an exact colour match. it's priced at £2650 is that a fair price as i know sod all about mercs really?

And should i keep my bmw or swap it for the merc!

a quick check of autotrader seems a bit hit or miss, 300k examples for £3k with 125k miles for 2k ish!

also whats the boxes like? (auto)?

is it a good idea to chip something with this amount of miles?

I would pick a bm over a merc any day of the week, BM's are a lovely drive and e class mercs are more for old men, at least it still looks like you have a heartbeat if your driving a 5 series.

As for chipping a car with that miles, who knows really, you could chip a car with 300k and have no problems, where as you could chip a car with 30k and blow the turbo, but clearly there is a bigger risk the more miles it has on it.

you not fancy something like a 530d or a 540i?

I would stay clear of the 525d though if I were you, good luck

Not had any of the bigger range of mercs or bmws but have had a bmw 330d and now own a c270cdi and the merc is a much nicer all round car.Just make sure you get the aventgarde model.

there are that many unhappy owners type into google,

easier than listing them here!

ps they are also slow and stodgy to drive

i thought it drove ok considering the mileage, i know it's not going to be a track car nor a hot hatch but thats not what a diesel e class is!

& i didn't think it was "that" slow. still 200bhp straight six turbo diesel & being an auto it just accelerates.

I typed that into google but didn't really tell me anything i didn't already know, and tbh most of the faults listed apply to nearly call common rail diesels on the market regardless of manufacturer. injectors, glow plugs, varible track inlets, egr valves for example. The only concerning e class fault i can find is rust! and the one i'm looking at is very good condition, infact i've seen worse cars at concours ford fair!

Ive had 03 CDI 320 and it was a lovely car. far superior imo to the bmw of that era.

I had a 51 plate M5 and obviosly the m5 was quicker but the merc was more luxurious and a more comfortable drive.
