Is all mk4 Escort aftermarket springs & shocks from the likes of Spax, Koni, Cobra, H&R etc etc all interchangeable between models?
I have a 1.4 mk4 but the options are limited for this spacific car fit where as if i could include rs turbo or xr3i gear id have a lot more scope to choose from.
Why do they list different model fit springs & shocks? Is it all to do with engine weights or are the suspension components on the car different per engine and spec ?

I also have a 1.4 mk4 and had a set of spaxs top adujustables on mine.. The only diffrence i noticed was the bottom of the shock was flatter as oppose to the ford setup.
most family runabout are built for comfort as oppose to handling but to save on machine cost items such as hubs etc i belive where all universal

So a aftermarket kit listed for RS Turbo, for example, will bolt straight up to a 1.4 ?
I dont understand why suspension companys need to list so many different fitments for individual models of the same car when the MK3 and 4 is generic (sure it is?) across the range wishbone, hub lay out etc

yeah it will mate, they list different ones as the turbo is slightly lower i beleive
EDIT: so they probably have bit harder springs and the dampers

The turbo is 25 mill lower than astandard tin top.. Is yours a 3 or 5 door model?..the reason for askin is the 5 doors a heavier and will make the car sit even lower.. if you say 30mm drop on an RS becomes 35mm on a 5 door

Its a 5 door mate. I thought it would be lighter than the RS as theres less tackle on it, DIY windows lol, no ABS etc etc
The drops for the 1.4 are pretty low, average being 40mm but guess thats probably due to it being higher to begin with?
Im only looking to take the edge off the height, nothing stupid as its used as my run about everyday car.
Think a drop of 25mm would do me, 30 max.

Is it an LX model?.. 30mmm sounds like a wise move it give plenty of room to play around with diffrent alloy sizes.. I had 40mil on mine and it survived but returned to standard for the bad weather.

Nah its just a L
I thought about Coilovers initially but cant justify spending upwards of 400 quid.
Like the look of Cobra springs although again to buy a set of matching shocks from the same company or say Koni wont be far off 400.
Spax VSX kit looks good value although not many reviews of it.
Wondering whether to play it safe and buy H&R 20mm drop springs with OE spec Bilstein shocks?
Never thought looking for sutible suspension would be this hard for a Scort lol

If you want to play around with diffrent heights etc then id just hit ebay for a couple of second hand sets, you can amass a few sets and play around until you find a set up you like.. then sell on what ever you've left and maybe recoup some cash..

Still havent got round to doing the suspension but have decided on Koni's, or did do!
''Apparently'' RS Turbo Koni's are a seperate part number and iv been told wont fit a 1.4 but no answers exactly as to why.
Does anyone know if the hubs are different between RS and the outgoing mk4 models?

Is the car a 5 door or a 2 3 door?.. the suspension will fit, however with the extra weight on top the drop will be lower so if its a drop of 40 mill..the actual fitted drop will be around 45 mill..

They will be fine ive got rs turbo shocks and springs on my estate and they fit fine the only reason companies list differant models is because the base models sit higher to start with.
