Leaving the original coil supressor in place could cause this iirc - Did it happen immediately after fitting OR did it happen after a while of use?

I had the driver fitted by MSD the other day. Started it up yesterday and it seemed like it was missing and was overfueling badly too. It ran far beter without the TPS connected. So as a process of elimination i went through it all. All out of ideas i thought i would open up the ecu and found that.

The loom im using has nothing to do with the original coil still attached ( apart from the ignition amp ) and im using an MSD wasted spark loom, so there is no suppressors etc on the loom.

Any other ideas ?

I will have a chat with MSD in the week just wanted to try and find the cause this weekend whilst the weather was good

the amount of black smoke that was coming out of the exhaust made me not want to try. + its not tax'd as i was hoping to get it back on the road for the start of April

Another odd thing, which may be related to the W/S driver, with th ignition turn on, a spark plug in the lead and earth'd ( to see if a spark ) its like its sparking rapidly but the small sparks are just arcing to the side of the plug. Now, same situation ignition on, if i unplug the coilpack and then plug it back in again, the small rapid sparking stops.

Im confused.

Ive just taken the loom out and tested it and it all seems fine ( althogh i cant get the IAW to work on it ). Can MSD test looms ?

Yeah it will work without it provided the fault that caused that doesnt affect anything else.

"JESUS" because the only real way to get that device damaged like that is to short the rev counter output of the module to 12 volts positive somehow !

That device probably saw a peak curremt of around 400 amps for a few milliseconds..LOL

Thank you again Simon.

Thats something for me to look at then as the mainloom connector isnt even plugged in. Just the ignition switch.

Any idea on the interference type thing on the sparking ?

I'd say therefore that its probably all down to a VERY dodgey wiring loom!!
