Cruise AFR's?
What AFR's do you all run on cruise?
Karl Norris told me CVH's prefer a slightly richer than Stoich cruise at 14.0:1, be interesting to here what everyone else thinks and how hot your running at your chosen AFR!
I supose we only have our coolant temps to go by, unless you've got a EGT sensor but it is a reflection of cylinder temps to some extent! Anyone who is running an EGT sensor/gauge would be interesting to here your observations on cruise AFR's vs EGT's, IIRC 850c-900c is about max you want to be seeing on a RST?

i have yet to buy my sensor for my vems wideband, but i intend to do so.
as for cruise AFR, then i'd aim for leaning it out more then 14.0, that's a bit too rich to maintain economy.
less than stoich will be fine, some run them as lean as 16 at some points of low load and mid revs.
whatever gets you the response and efficiency you desire really.
i'm aiming mine to cruise at 14.9, as that was the best for efficiency and response the engine was before going efi from my carb setup.
will get egt readings up as soon as i get a probe into the turbo housing.

as above will let you know how the afr etc is affected by this new cam and what pros/cons it has over standard cam but have had mine touching 15 and is fine but when you have it up at 16 theres a slight hesitation every now and then if you've done them miles then i hope your giving that plenty of boost now and reving it a bit now to 5000ish to bed it all right in

Cheers for all your input fella's!
The reason I ask is that Karl Norris thought that running too leaner cruise could have contributed to my vavle seat dropping and said 14.0:1 is best for a CVH, and obviously I dont want that happening again!
clarke5700 yes I have been mate, want it run in by then end of next week latest!!
project rs i'm running 11psi (just happens to be what my actuator is at) and it makes that by 2500rpm, my limiter is set to 4000rpm at the moment and as soon as I breach 500miles i'll raise that to 5000rpm, then at 750miles to 6000rpm, then at 1000miles 7000rpm

i've run into 15.1 for a cruise but it was a little hesitant, but did no damage to head.
p.s. it's not revs that kill engines, it's high loads that do the damage when bedding everything in.

went out today and new cam is great no difference in lag etc ticks over fine and pulls really well to limiter and only 0.88 bar at moment but is really lively, round town cruising at 13.8 at moment and water temps 85 and egt 450 and that was a 30 minute round town trip

Did you have to alter the fuel table much, how has it effected the engines VE?
Karlos, off subject here but i saw you go through the car park in freeport braintree on friday night, was just getting into my car at the time (everyday runabout fiesta), your car looked superb mate. Said to my gf i recognise that car but for some reasonhad thought u didnt live round this way. Would of come said hello and had a look around the car but u had car full of mates so wouldnt wanted to have held u all up lol.
Oh! Yes it was me mate!
Just been to watch Kick Ass with the GF (dont know who else you thought was in the car?! lol
), but yes mate if you see me again feel free to come and say hello!
I live 20mins from Braintree so it's my local Cinema, i'm up thre at least once every couple of weeks.

I had my CVH at 15:1. The CVH never handled lean situation too well. Didn't run well at all above 16.5:1. Compared to modern 16V engines for example that seem well fine upto 20:1 without any hesitation.
I always liked to keep my CVH lean at cruise because it seemed to have a great effect on keeping the plugs, valves and chambers completely clean. Cruising with a rich mixture leads to carbon buildup quite easily which promotes other issues in the long run.

Ah right cool, next time i see ya i'll come say hi. Be even better once my turbo is back on the road soon, can arrange a mini meet lol as i know a few others with rs's around the area.

never thought of going that much leaner, but i guess it's worth a shot.
That makes sense, the Newmans is designed for power up in the revs and so doesnt flow as well down low.... odd that the on boost part is rich too, would of thought that it flows better than the stock cam up there?
Just upped my limter to 5000rpm and my boost to 1bar, starting to pull very nicely now

good to see your getting there we'll have to have a bit of a head to head at central day as we should be similar power levels then but as you have a smaller turbo be interesting to see how long it takes for mine to spool and see if it can catch you up, also been out tonight and the ve of engine is much better we've pulled loads of fuel and ignition out but power has remained similar but only got 10 degrees of ignition left up at 0.8 bar but going to re adjust lifters at weekend as they'll have the miles on them by then and then get it all mapped ready for central day so will have 1.2 bar on the t34 to see how that goes and what times we can get with that power
Dont think i'll be tracking mine if I come to Central day, I dont want to brake it!!
Only 10deg left hmmm... I supose that T34 is passing a much greater volume than my little .36/55 T3! lol

normally use optimax but as we were mainly after miles on the cam so i can re check it all ready for central day we just through some normal 95ron in for this tank be back on shell in 300 miles, surprised you not going to have a go on strip as thats the point of building a quick car to use it so

It's my daily drive, a nice fast road car is what I wanted and thats what i've got! We all know the BC box will not take the hard launches

Would be nice to see what it can do, but I have no expereicne at launching a car off the line so would be slow and I've stripped teeth off input shafts at only 190bhp so I'm not going to risk it!
