when i start my escort s reg diesel van, in the morning it smokes a bit and is a bit sluggish but once it is warm it runs really well, but have noticed a slight burning smell when i park up and leave the engine running, any ideas

it could be coked up a little has it had a new air filter aswell, smoking a little when cold can be quite usuall, the funny burning smell could be a slight leak burning off on the hot engine oil or coolant can smell.

 

Sounds to me like a normal old diesel escort

i thought that as well, but to be honest i really like this van, so want to keep this one, so trying to get everything sorted on it to make it last, cheers for you help

 

could try giving at good rag down the motorway in 3rd. clear it out
