its a standard bottom end and its running a spacer plate from ferriday engineering not sure how much it will cope with its about 15psi at the moment, the engine is in good condition though its only got 30k miles on it,i wish when i bought it yrs ago id strengthend the bottom end a bit and put better pistons in,what sort of price would different management be fitted? Been looking at motorsport developments site they list a type of stg 3 chip would this be of any use to me do you think?

Go for new pistons and rods first then and get rid of the spacer plate

New rods and pistons, change the cam for a Newman item, T3 turbo and Escort RST manifold, aftermarket management with bigger injectors.

All imho of course

standard rods are only rated at 250hp at most and some brake below this figure, if your starting from scratch you wont go far wrong taking oranoco's advise

a live map involves taking it to the tuner and he would map on the road
how many miles has your engine done? strap a stage 3 t3 turbo on paddle clutch, make sure you have at least a big bearing gearbox, front mount cooler, take it to a tuner and get some bigger injectors, i reckon you could see 240+

thanks for explaining that i think my car could do with a live mappin session, hopefully it wil make it a bit more driveable.the engine is in excellent condition, would i need igger than beige injectors? Ive got a paddle clutch in already but still running standard 2i box so dont think it will last long although it was fine all last summer and i did a few hard launches so il keep fingers crossed for now on that

proper bottem end - ie steel pistons and rods

t3 turbo (although with your worry about lag this may not be a wise choise unless you have it built with roller bearings)

and better managment - maybe cosworth L6 or L8 or aftermarket if you can afford it

but this wont make the engine come on boost much earlier - maybe a lighter flywheel as this would help an engine rev faster so you could get on boost quicker, other than that you could get some heat protection on the turbo/manifold to help it come on boost quicker as well

how much have you got to spend?

Jonny S2 - i was reading something on turbos the other day in redline magazine and they said compression doesnt make much of a difference to lag and you could do lots of things before lifting the compression to get the turbo to come on boost faster

i wouldnt go t3 turbo if hes worried about lag, unless of course its got a roller bearing core

there are things you could do to reduce lag - get your manifold and turbo heat wrapped, maybe a lighter flywheel could help to im not sure...

i would look at uprating your managment - cosworth L6 or L8 or even P8 or full after market system - with a live mapping session to really get the best from it

steel rods and pistons

it all depends whats in the skyrocket, how much are you looking at spending?

make sure your car can handle the power though, good tyres, brakes suspension gearbox and clutch will be needed

if your getting a new gearbox you may as well get a diff too which sadly is more expense

EDIT: i wrote the first reply then the interent died and i didnt think it had posted so i wrote this one out, bloody computers

i know the bottom end needs improveing but while its still good il use it til it breaks, turbo is also quite newly re built so dont wanna change til its broken, maybe turn it up a touch though,in ur opinion would u say lagging a std manifold would be ok or wil it crack it?has any one used or got turbo wrap?seen sum on the bay,wil it cause me any problems?

700 ish to spend, suspension is sorted although i could do with sum lower rear springs if any one has sum,its got cosworth front brakes on too so i think it should be ok to handle sum more power, defo gonna look into getting sum parts heat wrapped, any pics of wrapped manifolds and turbos would be a help too what prices roughly is better management gonna be,i think my aim is also gonna be to try reduce turbo spool up time

no heat wrapping will be fine, you can get covers for the turbo to.

they have a double win factor in that they also stop heat getting to the airintake as mush so you get mpre power and less lag

The other option is a 2.0 zvh will run about 230bhp on the rest of your spec
