Can you change a plate on a car if it's SORN? Its reads as though you need insurance, tax and MOT.

Anyone know

Thanks

I just swapped one last week.

The car it came off it's MOT ran out early December and it has no insurance, it was no problem for them to do it. Not sure about a SORN vehicle tho

When doing a transfer the car the plate has come off needs to have been taxed at some point in the last 6 months.

The car the plate is going on to need to have current tax or be taxed at the point of transfer.

If the plate is going on a car off a retention certificate only my second sentence applies.

Oh and what might be of interest as an after thought, if say your car is currently on SORN, to put the plate on you have to re-tax it........... there is nothing stopping you waiting a week (for DVLA to update their records cos they're a bit slow) and then claiming the tax back and re-declaring SORN thus only loosing 1 months tax @ £13.75
