Default London to Leicester (Melton Mowbray) - traffic problems?

Gotta do this run tomorrow afternoon/eve - anyone know of any traffic problems I should be aware of?

No idea where I'm going, so I'm relying on sat-nav and/or Google Maps

M1 has speed restrictions (SPECS) just after the Luton turnoff and also a bit further up as well. The main ones are j25 - 28 but that's Nottingham / Mansfield and you won't be going that far up. Traffic on it (and the M25 etc) can be a bit of a bastard so allow plenty of time for the journey to allow for fuck ups.

Im sure you will see many 40/60 restrictions aswell, in the form of a red LED type sign above the motorway always nice when you want to get on

Can you tell me of any you know of? Or just in general? Thanks, but having been driving for 10+ years, I think I know how motorways like to fuck your journey up - I was after tips on current roadworks, lane closures etc from people that drive this route currently, or at least what Mr S1 posted!

The only LED boards on the M1 mate mate the ones between the M25 and Luton, and I'm not even sure the cameras above them are working yet either but take it easy just in case. Other than that it's just SPECS for as far as you're going anyway. Careful around Leicester though, the Law on the M1 are arseholes mate....take it easy.

http://www.highways.gov.uk/traffic/traffic.aspx is your best friend - it can tell you of current & future roadworks and other general info. Even got the sign message and CCTV if you want to know more!

Just meant in general, and there always seems to be something that makes you late etc, i rarely travel on the m42/m6 without a hitch

Ok, thanks guys! tsutton didn't even know about that site! Thanks - just seen they've got an iPhone app for it aswel! Touch!

Ok so next q' : which route? Google suggests either M11 > A1, or M25 > M1, with the latter being 30miles longer.

Since I don't go up that way often (well, never ) would I be best going A1 or M1?

You have a sat nav so why bother asking which way to go, have faith in that small box stuck on your windscreen

Because the small box is great for navigating around towns etc you're not familiar with, but it isn't better at telling you the BETTER route from point A to point B, comparred to actual people that drive the same route commonly. Especially when the satnav has no idea if the A1 is down to 2 lanes for 30miles due to resurfacing....

I'd go the M1 every time - the A1 is a fucking nightmare, cameras and roundabouts. Proper pain in the arse. Go the M1 mate.

Just been told to go M11 > A14 and then A5 (or A6) ???

Would be a lot more usefull going via M11 than M1 as it means I wouldn't have to go all the way round the top of the M25 to get to M1...

Hmm...
