I want to travel the world for a bit, has any one on here done this before?
Any one got any tips like which places to go and which jobs to get so that I still have time to look around and do things?

thanks

Yep have done it to a certain extent. Ask Westy as well off of here as he has done it I believe.

Depends on your skills and the kind of work you can do/can tollerate. Most work will likely be unskilled and cash due to the hassle of putting a non resident on full time.

My advice would be if you come to oz, use your visa wisely. I did and have residency as a result but it is tough. If you are not sure especially with oz, do a quick trip to sus things out.

It is definately an eye opener to do and I would recommend it to anyone. I have some mates over from the UK at the moment and they love it. So many people out there doing it alone, making friends is the easiest part

Wot kind of places would you recommend staying at - youth hostel or apartment etc. I think working for cash is the best option to get food just to keep alive while I’m going around places.

How do you go about applying for a visa? Is it the same for most countries?

cheers

My favourite subject

This is what I done and would recommend it to ANYONE. Got back end of December (just gone) and want to go again already.

TBH your best bet is to buy an all around the world open ticket. This came in handy as whilst in Thailand we extended with no cost. Also changed the departure dates from OZ about 10 times, no cost for doing this.

I got my ticket from a company called TRAILFINDERS. Based all over the world. Done it over the phone. For approx. a grand Ł you get a certain amount of air miles. Cant remember the amount now unfortunately.

Whichever route is entirely upto you As there were 4 of us, we came to an agreement, not difficult!

The route we done was… left Heathrow to Bangkok (transfer flight from Singapore, was there for about an hour)!

After we were finished in Thailand, left for Singapore. Stayed for 3 nights. Just abig city at the end of the day.. fookin huge tiger prawns tho After Singapore, went OZ. Was originally gonna be there for about 3 months. This was extended to about 9 Once you get there, you’ll see why Loved it!! With regards to work. Lads I went with done labouring (cash in hand and well payed) Also, Printing. Depends what your skill is. Another mate is a chef! Found work easy. Now been offered sponsorship so is back to OZ shortly.. nice free accommodation for me when I go back If you don’t really have a trade as such then TELESALES Wicked laff tho. Travellers environment, so you just play cards and piss about really. Pay is pretty shite but pays for beer and rent.. that’s all you need.

Now, when we left OZ, we went to New Zealand.. what a place. We drove round the south and north Islands. The views and scenery are proper AMAZING. So much space, yet so few people. Saw glaciers etc! loved it there aswell. Made driving enjoyable, even tho we were in a Hyundai 1.5.. slow as fook esp with all the luggage

After NZ, went to Fiji for a week.. Island hopping Make sure your backpacket is waterproof Luckily mine was.. we got warned about that before we left. I could right so much about Fiji as I fell in love with the place. But you need to go see it! Culture and weed Chill out in a hammock, white sands whilst watching the sun set, red skies!! Was a nice relaxing part of travelling that place..

After that LA and Las Vegas.. what can I say, its America!!

Any info you need, let me know. Only to happy to help. JKust thinking about it makes me happy

Gonna have to get some pics up I reckon!

Backpackers places are so common over here. Go to google and type in "backpacker hostel" in google.com.au. Loads of them. My friends are in one called the Friendly Backpacker I think.

Oz visa - up until recently the legislation was. 1 12 month visa per person per life. That is valid for 12 months from the time you land in oz and you have up to 12 months to take it. i.e you apply in January 2005, have up until January 2006 to land in oz and then 12 months from there so out in January 2007.

Rules used to be 2000pounds and a return plane ticket or at least outbound of oz or 3000pounds in savings and no onward ticket. You have to send off a bank statement to the Australian High Commission in London which is in the Strand I believe but google can confirm.

Oz visa limits you to a total of 9 months work in the 12 months you are in oz but you can only work for one company for not more than 3 months.

New Zealand I dont think you need a visa for holidaying and can stay up to 6 months. Oz you get an ETA (Electronic Travel Authority) for 20 quid from a travel agent for a 3 month holiday.

Oz I know most about as I have been living here on and off for nearly 4 years now and have been through residency and visas etc so anything I can help with there, just ask.

with regards to which route.. the one I did is very popular. The amount of people we met in Thailand then met in OZ etc was unreal! Good tho Really is dependant on which places YOU want to go..

For example, my boss has just left for 8 months.. the route she is doing is

Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia,Bali, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, San Francisco, Peru

so tahts another choice
