Default Main Dealer Service History

Why do people get so Anal about main dealer service history?

Heres the story.....

My dad wanted a Jag S-Type 2.7D

So about 9months ago we went looking around and found a car in Jaguar main dealers.

When the car was sold it was 1000miles off needing a service. (the car had done 33,000 miles) Within 6weeks of buying the car, my dad took it to be serviced at his local main dealers to keep up the history and to keep the free 3 month warrenttee valid.

My dad takes great pride in his cars and get them serviced religously.

After owning the car 6months its started to play up slightly. (only start on 3 cyclinders, lacking power, black smoke a bit) but only every now and then. He took it back to Jaugar and told them that something wasn't right. They gave it back to him telling him that the head technition of jaugar had looked at the car at it was in tip top condtion and no fauilts were found.

He just put up with the little cough and splutter every now and then, and as hes planning to keep the car for good now and the warrenttee has run out he asked me to take over all the servicing.

The car has done 6800miles scince it was fully serviced at jaguar costing a fortune and 1000miles scince he was told by jaguar it was in tip top condtion and today I serviced it.

Here are my findings and the reasons behind the poor running

That defantly hasn't happened over 6800miles!!! and the airbox was fully of rubbish. It took me 3/4 hour just to clean out the airbox!!

And I found these dropped down the front of the radiatior

Thats disappointing, i like to buy a car with either dealer serivice history or servicing from well known companys in the performance sector, if its a performance car that i'm buying of course.

Most of the time they just get the bitchs (apprentices) to do the service's and charge top money for it.

Knowing what some main dealers can be like they will claim the filter is that dirty due to the really cold winter we've had and the dirty roads.

Exactly, my experiance is private garages have more to loose than dealers, one my old cars went to a dealers to keep up warranty, came out with an oil leak.

Found nice private local garage now, honest, reasonable cost, job done!

Have to say - I know this is a ford site - but anyway - few years ago now but - I knew - hes gone now- one of the main service techs at a local major ford dealership... and he told me that they used to clean up the outside - visible bit -of rocker gaskets and other gaskets and charge for a new one being replaced.... just shows you ...and thats fact. proper.

also at the same dealership - when they used to do overnight works - I used to run a small courier company so needed the work done when the vehicles were not earning - so overnight if poss - i used to book it in to be done - collect next morn to find nothing done - so me into service reception and they had the job card there and try to tell me the work was carried out !!!???? and invoice me ffs

The old mans gunna ring the dealers in the morning, that it was last serviced at. I exspect they will be totally dis-intrested!

i'v never seen a filter that dirty it's very shocking though, i do all my own work (tools permiting) cos it's the only way to no it's done right (and cheaply ), im sure there is some good reliable garages out there but for every 1 there must be atleast 10 scammers to make the numbers up
