Default Santa Pod Preparation

Afternoon, my first attempt at writing something up!! Pics taken by my CRAP blackberry camera so excuse the quality. Anyways tomorrow be heading to the pod and spent a good part of today doing some servicing and some weight shedding

So typical scene of Ford on the drive jacked up tools everywhere



Did and oil and filter change as my oil was still clean but coming up to about 10 months old and since will be going to the Pod took the opportunity today to change it. So oil drained and sump plug adapter and oil temp probe PTFE'd and tightened



Changed the spark plugs also these were about 2 years old done about 8000 miles on them but I like changing them every couple of years or even every year as they are cheap and also mean the engine is working efficiently. 3 spark plugs healthy looking but soaked in oil due to my previous leaky rocker cover gasket



Replacing and torquing up new plugs



Cleaned my air filter element which seems to trap plenty of small stones but not really that dirty. Due to its positioning I suppose. Had a look inside the piping also due to my filter's positioning to see how clean that was and happy to say pipework clean as a whistle no sign of dirt water intake. Filter position just behind the NS foglight.

DIY splash guard (thanks to Martin aka pdfbt40) back on



After installing all spark plugs, refilling with oil and refitting air filter as usual with the 3rd and 4th HT lead they don't like goign back on and sitting properly so constantly cause misfiring if they don't sit right so after faffing around pushing them in as hard as possible (if I'd have pushed any harder the spark plugs would be actually touching the piston roofs). Service complete and engine purring away (again sorry for rubbish quality vid)

Some weight shedding began shortly after a small lunch break. Boot is fully of ICE and custom sub enclosures and false floor and stealth shelf all weigh a tonne so out it all came. Fake floor (which needs repainting)

Tried to take out the rear seats too but the bolts were far too tight and the torx heads that I had were only big enough to fit the rear bench but because I could only fit them to a driver instead of a rachet couldn't get anywhere near enough torque or grip to get them off so gave up. Bit disappointed I couldn't get them out but never mind.

Shall post the times I get tomorrow! Ran a 16.5 previously fully loaded and prior to the MSD remap so looking to crack low 16s and if I get into the 15s I'll be incredibly chuffed as that is ST170 territory!

what kind of money are the cams mate? what power is it roughly running now? i bet i can rev fast!

Cams were second hand set me back Ł150 mate brand new they about Ł400 you can only get them from the States though. Was running 145bhp, 127ft.lbs of torque before the remap but difference cams make is power is all the way up to the limiter doesn't let off at all whereas on the Ford standard cams mid range is very good but top end dies off.

I will need to get mine back up the strip once it comes back from its remap with the bigger turbo and injectors

I hope to get a 12.7 with a 120mph terminal

As said above mate low 16s. Bordering on high 15s is ST170 territory so around there

Congratulations on your run

Would of been better if you run the car the same as last time, you know don't know if the improvement is due to the weight saving or the remap

My best run was

2.314 60ft
5.825 330ft
12.915 1/4 @ 114.77mph

My 1/8th terminal speed was 89.09mph

Yeah I was thinking that but I wanted to do an all out proper run see what numbers I could get although that being said I think the weight saving definitely helped first gear I think but the map even on the road it pulls hard from 5k rpm upwards so think that would've helped me in second and third gear deffo up top of the rev range. You see I generally do well up to second gear against any car (first run was against a scoob and I span up massively) and he wasn't really pulling away at all but in third gear is when lack of boost and ultimate power and torque slows me down and other cars will pull away. On the road though I can hold my own up to about 70-80mph easy. Beat a V8 Camaro today as well
