Default consequences of water pump failure. FRS?

what happens to my car if the water pump were to fail? over heating is a big worry as its a FRS and hasnt go a fucking temperature gauge. is it just a case of over heating?

Water pump failure can cost you a whole engine no problem at all.
You could always add a temp gauge cheaply, and easily done, can even put a water temp alarm on it for a further £10 or so.

i use spa gauges. they aren't cheap but they are very very good. still cheaper than a re-built engine.

Does the FRS not go into limp mode and run on 2 cylinders or something to get you home if it over heats like a normal focus even tho it doesnt have a dash temp display?

Not sure but wouldn't have thought so, some engines alternate between cylinders so can be run with no coolant in emergencys, tend to be V8 though, either way I'd be fitting a temp gauge if mine!!

hopefully you have caught the problem early so minimal damage was done, worse case it's popped the headgasket which is is common on the old zetec motor when pumps or hoses break normally the number three cylinder is the worse hit.

hmm to get round the problem would surgest you fit a swirl pot for the coolant and fit one of ggr temp gauge kit and dash pod not cheap but a very good bit of kit and worth getting to prevent major damage like headgasket failures which £500- £1000 pound
also it might help if you get a coolant with a higher boiling point, reconmend halfords summer/winter coolant red in colour, also check the thermostat for open degree's

hope you get it sorted soon !!!

I'm sure these have a red light on the dash that comes on when it gets to a certain temp?

answer to this is no! lol the head warps!!! i ran low on coolant(pinched thermostat seal) and overheated causing the cylinder head to warp!!! i was going to replace the water pump at the same time as doing all the other work but there was a massive 8 week waiting list on the part from ford. car is back on the road now, all sorted as the mechanics stripped and checked the water pump on there and said it seems ok. i hate not having a temperature gauge. i think the graham goode one is soooo overpriced. are there any other options?
