Hi all,

Spent a large amount of today trying to take the engine loom out, so i can redo it nicely for ms. Labeled all connectors etc, is there a way to take it out???? i was hoping there would be a large connector before or after the fuse box, but there i can't see one.

Any advice would be great!

no it goes straight to the fuse box and battery only thing to do is tie it to someting in the air or take entire loom out if you really need to

Right, how have people adapted the loom to fit megasquirt, has any one got any pictures? Annoying as it looks like most of it will be done with the engine loom in place, which means standing in the cold some more with a soldering iron lol.

May cut up the loom, take out the ecu's and put a ampseal (big) connector as an intermediate from the megasquirt to the car loom, but not sure yet need ideas

Not megasquirt i know but when i had mine converted to efi OFAB I used the engine loom connecter from the frst.
I used both male and female connecters to keep the engine loom seperate from the car loom.
It was just a case of isolating the mfi engine loom section, cutting it out and then soldering in the new connecters with the right feeds etc.
doing it that way kept it tidy and means if i want to swap to MS or any other ecu/engine setup it shouldn't be hard as i just unplug the whole engine loom

 

The best way is to take the whole loom out and cut all the MFI bits off you dont need. You will be suprised at what is left. While it is out check the whole loom as its very old now and fix any damaged wires and then either tape it up or zip tie. It will look so much better and easy to wire ms. I pulled all my loom out and did it all in the living room infront of the fire lol

If you do take it out you might aswell put a new wire in for the fuel pump. It will eliminate any future problems.

 

Rob you do not use any of the MFI loom for MS mate!
You can cut it all out except for your headlight, indicator, and fan wiring.
All you need is a EFI inlet manifold/injector rail loom and plug, MS comes with it's own loom that you just have to solder the plug on to for CPS, Coil pack, and Inlet loom, then it's just plug and play my friend

Here is a handy pic I knocked up for MS to EFI Inlet loom plug, save a lot of messing about with a multimeter finding what goes where............ well it didnt for me but it will for you! lol

It was more a case of how do i take the engine loom out, to make it pretty lol i have the frst inlet/injector loom but cant find a male connector any where so will replace this.

Karlos did you do yours in place? or did you just leave all the mfi tosh intact and just make a new efi loom.

I made my MS loom up in my front room, as I say it's only soldering the inlet plug on, and the CPS, and coil pack plugs and it's done! You then just run a wire to the fuel pump relay, ignition barrell, and earths when your in the car.
I intially left all my MFI loom untouched and taped it back out the way, but since my engine is out I have actually cut it all out mate to tidy things up a bit.

 

Brilliant, cheers mate. Pretty much what i wanted to know. So your not using the ms relay board? As the engine is out i may as well get the snips out and hack the mfi parts of the loom out.

Would have been nice if the old loom was easily removed ie big connector under the fuse box. As i could have remade it nicely and heat shielded the lump around the front of the car.

no mate I'm not using the relay board, isn't that only for MS1?
My MS2 ecu can run everything directly, doesn't need external relays except for the fuel pump!

 

I've got a couple of the looms in the garage somewhere if you need 1 rob, althoughthey normally come with the inlet

Was going to make the loom up with these any how, they do one with the correct number of pins for the frst injector loom too if any one is stuck like me, supposed to be a good weather proof connector too. Probably make up a gauge loom and have them on one connector etc.
