Thought I'd start a new thread for this. The Escort RS Turbo will be taking longer to finish than I thought, as I really want to do things properly this time. SO that meant keeping the scooby to run around in. However I heard of a low mileage Ghia for sale cheap and everytime I go to the workshop and see the XR3 sat there it gives me a funny feeling in my stomach, I desided to buy the Ghia and re build the XR3 for Central Day.
The XR3. The shell is mint. Only one tiny bit of welding done.

The donor car I picked up tonight for £350 8)
It looks like its NEVER been welded. Its got 3 former Keepers, 73k on the clock 12 MONTHS MOT! and an XR2 engine. It had been stood for 4 years, taken straight to my brothers garage by the previous owner and MOT'd by my brother and it failed on a headlight bulb and the wiper blades! It's a very good car.

I've also got a box full of spares, inc Series 2 RS Turbo front brakes, 30mm lowering springs, a Kenlowe fan, brand new TCA's, some polybushes etc

And as for wheels, well the RS Turbo aint going anywhere for a while....

Going to have a 12 hour day on it tomorrow, I'll let you know how I get on.

Got a little bit done today, ready for the strip down and build tomorrow. Got the van outside so I could fit these in side by side.

Fitted the glass back in it, removed the pinstripe. Took all the kit off so I can clean, stonechip and waxoyl underneith. Then wheeled it over the front and scrubbed all the arches, floor and engine bay with traffic film remover and washed it all down.

Then wheeled back in.

The Ford graveyard as my dad calls it

The Series 2 looking abit sorry for itself

Painted up the Series 2 calipers to go on the XR3

And thats it untill tomorrow. First thing will be the stonechipping and waxoyl then I can start strippiong the Ghia.

Cheers guys.
Actually only 1! The Escort RS Turbo. I sold the Fiesta RS1800, the silver Escorts and XR3, the Fiesta in the corner is my brothers, but was mine, and the white Escort Turbo is a mate of mine I'm fitting Cosworth Management to. The other 2 cars are my brothers STI wagons.
Spent most of the day waxoyling all the floor and arches. No pics of this as I'm sure you know what a black sticky floor looks like.
Started stripping the engine and suspension etc off the Ghia. Thought it would be easier to just drop the lot, and slot it into the XR3 as a whole.

I'm not going to go too mad but thought I would clean down the parts before I bolt them back together.
Engine

Cleaned and fitted up the brake servo, lines and link bar.

and removed the RS Turbo loom, as I need to use the Carb loom

OOOOO nice and solid

Cheers for the pictures Conor.
If you could Jon that would be great fella! How's yours coming along? I'll have this at Central day you'll have to come look.
The engine Also has the wrong carb on it. It's got a single choke carb not the proper twin choke. Only one thing for it..... Fit twin 40's

Now then pal. I have a nice interior carpet for the silver one, its a very dark grey/black. make me an offer if its of any use. Might know of a set of twin carbs too could be pretty cheap if they are still about

Carpet on it's way. Thank Jon. Also got coming, some over riders, a tow eye cover, some black and white pressed tin number plates, genuine black plastic rivets, front strut tops for the 2 bolt conversion and a full engine overhaul kit. See what we can get done tonight.

Would be moving along quicker if you hadn't of cut the bastard fuel tank strap mount off

Dannyboy I'm using the loom I'm afraid as it's a non injection loom, so doesn't have any of the shite MFI crap in it.
Making some slow progress. Being held up by parts not arriving
Removed the complete rear suspension set up

cleaned

Fitted

Removed the brake lines and cleaned them back to green and fitted them

Removed the tank and fuel lines. I couldn't possibly put that grubby tank back on. Good job I had one I prepared earlier

And fitted

Although Jon the sod cut off the fuel tank strap mount, so I need to cut that off the Ghia and weld it back on. I also need to cut and weld the RST exhaust to mate upto the XR3 manifold sowill do this when the welders out.
Ordered some parts to rebuild the engine which arrived this afternoon.

And my new pressed tin number plates 8)

Also my black Ford rivets to fit the kit and spoiler arrived, and my front shock 2 bolt strut tops.
Still waiting for my Tigerseal and tow eye cover.
I've got Sunday and Monday off work and I'm really really hoping I can finish it in those two days. We'll see.
