Default Don't Gamble Kids

Have been doing a bit of spread betting on currency and oil to try and get some extra cash. Made a wrong decision today and instead of making £300 I bottled it and lost £86.

I'm still up though as the other week I made £150

Its not life changing money, but it gives a buzz. I'll have to be careful not to get addicted

I'd be better off just putting a couple of hundred quid a month in a savings account. I may get that 400bhp engine sooner then

I use www.tradindex.com you can set up a fantasy account which i did for a month or two. I made £500, but once you put your actual money in, it changes the perspective on the whole lot.

Only put in what you can afford to loose.

You need to put in a certain amount to cover yourself if the market jumps quickly and you miss it. You can also put a stop at a certain point so you only loose so much if it goes the wrong way.

I put in £400 and that allows me enough room to place £1-£2 bets

As above Melv. I put a £1-£2 bet per point it moves. In the case of Oil a point is actually $0.01 so a half dollar movement in the price means £50 on a £1 bet. I was betting on the $ vs the euro today and that moves on 0.0001. I bet £2 and it moved 150 tics AFTER i lost £86 and closed the bet, because I thought it would continue against me. 1 hour later it turned and dived. If I held on I would be £300 better off. Hay-ho

twisted as it might sound but....i made a killing on shares on that sept 11th

soon as i heard i dumped £20k of shares, bought them back in the afternoon when they were on the floor, and sold them a week later.....£7k up

give a £500 to charity as i went on a mental guilt trip!

then spunked the rest on a holiday and karting

im going to start playing soon - when ive got money to lose!

think i'll favour exchange rate swaps/options/futures instead of buying and selling shares. a little too risky for me! you dont earn as much but you also dont lose as much!

matt
no matter what you do there is always risks
depends on how big/small the risks are
bigger risks=more gain/lose
lower risks=less gain/lose

i will always go for more to gain/lose
